First Get Away in 2008 ...The heat is on, and the first destination of SIEP for 2008 is La Luz Beach Resort at Laiya, Batangas... Going there, I advise you guys to have a reservation first. The resort has a website in the net, with complete contact numbers. Although it will take you quiet a number tries before somebody answers the phone. The resort is only 2 hours away from Manila. In going there, I advise you to have a private car. During the time that we went there, we have to pass rough roads since road is not yet cemented. To sum it up, it is very easy to reach the resort since they made a good job in placing the signages of the resort location. We stayed there for overnight. The rooms were very ... read more

This last week or so in Batangas has been nice. One highlight was that we were teaching kids at a Chinese elementary school about identity, dreams, character and unity. I taught the identity portion and I think they really took it to heart. This place is nice and relaxing, but pretty suburban, which is not necessarily my style. I think I prefer metropolises and nature. I don't know, I think I probably like it all, I just don't really think the comforts of suburbia are really helpful to the problems of the world. I leave in a few hours for Vietnam. Our outreach group of 4 people has already split apart. Our leader left yesterday for Thailand, so she could bus to Vietnam and save a lot of money. My classmate, Orville, can't get his passport ... read more

One fine saturday, me and my friends had some rest and recreation at the Farm @ San Benito. The place which is located in Brgy. Tipakan, Lipa City, Batangas is a two hour drive from Manila. We left Manila at 7:00am, had our breakfast at Jolibee, Caltex Station, South Expressway and arrived at around 9:30 am. With a map in tow, we found the place easily although it is situated in a very remote area. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who gave us a welcome drink of coconut water with a dash of kalamansi. How refreshing! She gave us a tour around the north wing part of The Farm. Included in our package is a Live Blood Analysis (LBA) wherein you will know how your blood cells react. After the LBA session, we ... read more

Its was mid-afternoon already when we hiked to the crater of Taal Volcano in Tagaytay yesterday. The sun was up and it was so hot. We took a boat to bring us to the volcano, then hiked for about 4.5 kilometers by riding in a horse because walking is not a good idea, the road is not goor yet. While travelling, you can smell sulfur and can see some part of the mountain with smoke coming out from the ground. When we get to the top and have seen the crater of the volcano, its a very beautiful place, nice view and can really appreciate the beauty of the nature, though the volcano is one of the most active volcano in the Philippines, the beauty that it holds cannot be paid by any amount that anyone ... read more

As early as January, we planned a Valentine’s adventure in Sagada and Banaue on Feb, 13-16. All the preparations were done. We both filed for our vacation leave in the office for Feb. 14 and 15. I made some research on the places to see, things to buy and foods to eat. Our itinerary was already final and budget was computed and earmarked. We already made a booking for 1 night at George’s Guest House in Sagada and the next night at Banaue Hotel. We were so excited then until a bad news came about Lola Abe (my husband Freddie’s grandmother). She was dying. A week before Valentine’s day, Lola Abe died. Freddie, who grew up with Lola Abe, was so affected especially on the day of the interment. We went to Marinduque to pay our ... read more

Day 8 When we woke up this morning, it was very foggy. Before breakfast , Ronald & me went for a drive with Lita's Nephew Odie around Tagaytay. We stopped at a fruit stand, selling tiny bananas. We also stopped to view the Golf Course overlooking the Taal lake. The adults had breakfast at Chow King, the kids bought some food at Jollibee & joined us. We drove back to Makati (2 hours trip) & checked back in again to the Somerset Salcedo. I had a swim in the pool. Later in the afternoon, we went back to the Green Hills shopping centre for a snack. In the eveni... read more

Day 7 After Breakfast, we drove by car to Tagatay. Tagaytay is 56km south of Manila & is a spectacular place to view the Taal Volcano. When we arrived in Tagatay, we drove to a property where a friend of our's, Pat & family were staying & also met up with Eleanor & her mum (who had also come up from Manila for the day). After morning Tea, we left to go down the winding road, to the town of Talisay (where the boats depart to go over to the volcano). We stopped half-way down to get our first view of the volcanoes. The volcano pictured, far right is dormant, but others are still active. img=http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8978/19ru... read more

Richard and I have taken to turning up to the ferry terminals and deciding where to go depending on what's leaving soonish... such a liberating feeling... So right now we're hanging around in Batangas, waiting for an overnight ferry to San Jose. San Jose? Home of indiginous tribes in jungle so thick no road actually goes through it, and the only way to get there is take a ferry around the island. Apparently they found a Japanese soldier wandering around there in the 80's still thinking the second world war was on... lol I like the idea that with each day we're slowly ticking off life's to do list. We spent the most part of a week getting our scuba licences, don't really know why, but it's just one of those things that seems like it'd ... read more
