La Luz Beach Resort
Papa... relaxing after a long drive. Being the adult that I supposedly am and because I am earning my own dough, I thought it would be nice to treat my folks, Inang and sisters for a day at the beach.
I wanted a hassle free resort wherein the only thing we needed to do was get to the place. Family outings can sometimes be too tiring. I mean, the preparation before the trip is a lot of work! You have to worry whose going to bring this and that, what kind of food to bring, where to cook it and mostly whose going to be responsible enough to actually do the task. Since I'm the one who’s doing the invites, I didn't want to be bothered by such details. I wanted to relax... I wanted everybody to relax! So I got on the net, and surfed my way to finding the perfect place!
La Luz Beach Resort!
La Luz offers both overnight accommodations and day trips at an average price. The guests are limited to a certain number and reservation is required prior to the trip. The resort doesn't allow anyone to bring food or drinks inside their resort since they provide buffet meals for the guests
(a plus plus for me!). For Php650 a head, our day trip will include lunch and
merienda (snacks) buffet, and the use of the facilities.
Hassle free vacation in a snap!
I told everyone that we better leave around 5am so we can reach La Luz at a time when the sun isn't that hot. I love sprawling under the sun but not to the point of getting my skin burnt! However, the word "early" is not part of my family's vocabulary. We ended up leaving two hours later. When we got to the South Super Highway, I could see dozens and dozens of cars ahead of us. We stopped somewhere in the highway to pick Rob up. He was tagging along. As we waited, we decided to buy some breakfast at
Jollibee, and inside the fast food, the whole Metro Manila was there!
Sometimes, I hate summer! There are just too many people thinking the way I do! Get away from the city and have a leisurely day at some resort or vacation spot! Batangas is a perfect vacation spot! Perfect, near and accessible! So it is natural for most city-dwellers to hop in a car
It's a Family Thing!
During the buffet lunch at the sort of "mess hall" and drive to the nearby province!
Anyhow, we got to the beach after 4 hours of grueling traffic, twists and turns. Driving to San Juan was a little confusing, because you had to pass by Lipa City proper, which is frenzied on a Saturday morning. Nearing La Luz, the path becomes rough and we were already driving through a mountain. Getting there was a relief since the last twenty minutes of our ride was totally off the beaten path. Pj and I had a humungous smirk on our faces when we proved to Papa that the directions we were giving him were correct! Papa has this habit of not trusting her "girls" with directions. He claimed that he was just getting a second opinion when he stopped in front of a traffic enforcer!
La Luz is an ideal haven for relaxation! The entire beach was impeccably clean. The ambience was very serene even though there were a lot of people in the area. It offers a long stretch of white sand and calm blue waters for its visitors. I guess the limited number of guests were a key to all these! Crowded beaches are more of a headache
Lounging at the Beach
Giant lounge chairs in front of the beach! and an obstacle for me. The resort had a separate lounge area for those who were staying overnight and those who were there for the day. Upon settling in the cabana hut provided to us, we moved towards the pavilion where the buffet meals were being served. It was almost lunchtime when we arrived. The buffet meals were okay and a variety of dishes were served for both lunch and
merienda. One thing I noticed though was that the "waiters" or personnel serving behind the counters were a bit on the edge. Who knows, maybe the heat of the sun wasn't their thing or something. It was difficult to talk to them.
After lunch, we rented some snorkeling gears for Php100/3 hrs.
Inang (grandma) went ahead of us and started swimming down the beach. When we got there, it was whimsical to see her and Mama drifting along the blue water. Papa on the other hand, stayed at the cabana and slept while the rest of us slacked at the beach. The great thing about La Luz was that the seabed was devoid of rocks. I noticed though that the sand was soft and most of the time it
Meet The Fockers
Rob tagged along with us. crumbles when you step on them, sinking you another inch deeper into the water. If you swim farther out to the sea, you'll see marine animals going about their way. It's not as spectacular as you would think it to be but nonetheless, seeing another life form in an entirely different world is still something.
The day ended when my folks decided that they don't want to get stuck in another rush hour traffic. We only stayed for a few hours at the beach. Although the stay was short, I'm glad to know that this little trip of mine made them happy. Especially
Inang, whose eyes beamed passionately as she kept nagging me and Rob to get married already!
Well, so much for the life and tales of this adult!
PS: Infomaniacs Lounge: Tips on Your Trip to La Luz Resort:
1. Call La Luz first a week or two before your trip. You will have to check if they will be able to accommodate you on the day you want to go. This is for both overnight and day trips.
2. During the summer season, better call at least a month before. They get booked pretty easily.
3. To reserve, you will need to deposit half of the total fee. You'll then need to fax the deposit slip to them to confirm reservation.
4. To get to La Luz:
Click here to see the directions. Their directions are pretty accurate.
5. The summer weekend travel is incredibly annoying! If you left for Batangas during the morning rush hour, expect TRAFFIC!
6. If you get stuck in traffic, make sure that you find something to do. The drive is very long! It's not the distance that you have to worry about... it's the other million cars ahead of you!
7. The hills mentioned in the directions to La Luz are an understatement. The "hill" is narrow and very steep! Couple of hills means, you have to go through both the steep "hills"
8. Check their website for the Overnight accommodation. You'll have to pay for the room and the required Php800 for the buffet meals.
9. The cabana-like huts will be provided for every group. The huts are all lined together and are open spaced. It however, does have little curtains that you can use if you want privacy.
10. Batangas offers a lot of great beaches! The best ones are found in San Juan and Laiya.
11. Summer starts around March and ends early May. Peak season is between late March and early May. April is horrendous! Everyone is on vacation by this time!
