Day 22 Today dawned muggy and polluted as usual in KL. With it’s usual hze the city looks slightly surreal.
Anita, our maid, turned up at about 8am with our breakfast and we had eggs and roti and coffee for our first breakfast in KL.
As we had dental appointments, Peter, Gina, David and Mary headed off on the monorail to KL Sentral, the main railway station. Once there we transferred to the light rail system and heade to a place Taman Bahagia where the dentist is located.
Peeter has been here before and he acquainted David with Dr Sara and we had our treatments finished by about 11.30am. We then caught another train to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre rail station, which is where the twin towers are located.
We had arranged to meet Abby and Stu and the girls at the Petronas twin towers around about 12.30 so we could go up to the viewing platform on the bridge between the two buildings. So much for that plan. It’s closed on Mondays, as is the science centre in the Suria KLCC shopping centre. Oh, did I mention there’s an up market shopping centre at the
towers? As a point of interest the whole KLCC area is located on the former site of the Selangor Racing Club.
We then decided to have lunch and bought takeaway and sat outside in the gardens surrounding the buildings. A very pleasant place to spend an hour, with a huge “dancing” fountain in the lake putting on a great display.
After lunch, David and Mary headed back into the shopping centre whist the rest of us headed into the park for a relaxing stroll back to the Bukit Bintang area. On the way we went through the KLCC park and around the back of the Convention Centre and once we found our bearings we ended up at The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur’s latest and greatest up market shopping centre.
We had a walk around the lower reaches of the centre including the huge food court where we stopped and had a drink in air conditioned comfort. After this we headed towards home before calling into Low Yat Plaza.
Low Yat Plaza is where you will find everything IT and techie. There is 8 or 9 floors of computers, cameras, phones and every conceivable device or spare part
that you need to keep your high tech life in order. Abby and Stu are looking at a new laptop and the range is immense as all brands are available here. And especially for Sophie, there’s plac ehere called Apple Donuts and they are as good as Krispy Kreme and a new Famous Amos Cookie being set up right now.
Meanwhile, David and Mary had worked their way over to the same part of town had a good like around Times Square, which is less than a block away from where we were. They were checking out the post office to send some gear back to Oz to reduce the cost of excess baggage on the flight back to Brisbane. We had all had a bit of shock yesterday when we all found out how much baggage we had all accumulated after 3 weeks away. Anyway, there were quite happy with the information they had received as they had had a bit of a communication problem with the post staff on Langkawi.
We all then arrived back at the house and instead of dining out, we put together a feast of canned curried beef, baked beans, rice, toast
and various other foods and sauces and a fine tea at home. Washed down by a few rums, beers, whisky and coffee and good conversation we settled in for the evening. And we don’t even miss TV - except maybe the Lifestyle channel.........or the food channel.........................or the how to channel.
