Beautiful beach on PangkorBeautiful beach on PangkorBeautiful beach on Pangkor

We walked in mid-day heat about 10 miles, never again but was worth it to find some of these gorgeous little deserted beaches.
James & Helen’s few weeks of holiday time

Back to Kuala Lumpur and China town to plan where to go next after Jay’s departure… We decide the only way to decide what to do is over a super delish Nandos. After the tastiest Nando’s ever to set us up we decide to head to a small fishing island on the west coast called Pangkor. The journey to Pangkor was pretty easy and I proved my dominance in the game of shithead several times over the journey!

We spent a week of playing lots of shithead and conquering my fear of scooters and hiring one to get about on the island. The island is beautiful and very, very tranquil with no other westerners on the island, a bit strange but nice to relax and explore for a few days. We decide after a day of watching the sopranos and south park to head to Pangkor town, we decide to walk as it doesn’t seem to far and of course why not leave the village at 11 meaning blistering mid day heat… the walk turned into a test of who would break first! Ha, we made it to the village about

Rocking it out with full helmet and very careful driving!! ha-ha!
3 hours later a little sweaty and in need of some food and drink. We find everywhere is closed apart from one place but it looks like it’s local only, we go in anyway, buffet rice and a type of sauce with god knows what in!? Was ok apart from the fish that was getting prepared next to us, heads flying of at an alarming rate! Ha-ha! Oh well, taxi back to the village please!!

The next few days we chill out and it’s pretty nice to get through a book and go for some little walks down the beach before we go to one of the three restaurants. One funny thing we noticed in Malaysia is that when your order food or a drink you don’t always get what you asked for. We went for lunch one afternoon and I fancied a vanilla milkshake and steak and egg which was on the menu, awesome I thought. Helen ordered a boiled egg with some chips I think… 20 minutes pass and the guy comes back with a vanilla ice cream, close I think but no cigar. 5 minutes later he brings over a very large and thick pancake thing!?

Helen came off her scooter just as i did on a dam corner! She came off a lot better than i did though!
Ok, I think for a moment, we are the only people in the restaurant, how the hell has he got to this?! No idea but I’m hungry so I eat it, nothing comes for Helen though?! We think better of it and go buy some crisps for lunch!

The day of the scooter accident, por Helen this time! We decide the only way to get to see the whole island would be on scooters so we hire one each. I last more than half an hour this time and finish the day off with no leg or knee wounds, whoop whoop to that! Unfortunately, it was Helen’s turn to have an accident, as we come to an adverse camber and the tightest corner I have ever seen I take it wide to pull the scooter back in, Helen does the same but a car is coming down the hill and around the corner, she pulls back into her lane but instead of pressing break she did what I did in Koh Samui and pulled on the accelerator, doh, straight into a little ditch but she was a little smarter than me and let go of her scooter so didn’t

keep pulling on the accelerator. All was ok though and she got straight back on as if nothing had happened, a few more beaches and little villages, kind of like the one the others live in, in Lost. After a week on the island of relaxing to the max we decided as we were pretty much the only non-locals to move on up to the Cameron highlands for tea and what we have been told a cooler climate.

We decide at the service station we are getting a bit good at shithead so decide to buy a new card game, Uno. Wellety wellety well it turns out that Uno is in fact shithead but with more cards and what seems to be less point that shithead, oh no!

We arrive in the wet and cool Cameron highlands and it’s fair to say we were excited about the cool weather, we had long forgotten what rain felt like and it felt good! The air was fresh and the guest house was cool and served tea and scones and looked very, very British, little rabbit’s in a but hutch and a cat that just wouldn’t stop meowing. In fact the

whole area looked very British and very civilised, what’o chaps, who’s for tea? Me & Helen, and lots of it!

It’s all looking a little Christmassy up here in the hills, there are mock Tudor houses with Christmas lights on and a Starbucks which we frequented a few too many time up in the hills!

Donning our rain jackets we decide to attempt one of the treks, we opt for the one that ends up at the strawberry picking place and tea picking gardens… or so we thought!
We start the walk and can’t find the beginning, eventually finding the start we cross a little bridge over a brook with butterflies flying around our heads, sounds beautiful right? On we continue, deeper and deeper into the forests following what we think is a track. About an hour in the heavens open and it’s rain central, rain-macks on and step up the walk to get to the strawberry or anything with shelter! Deep in the forest and it’s been raining for well over an hour now and the track has become a mudslide and increasingly narrow. Just over the side of the track is a steep slope that goes

a long way down, we soldier on and after about another hour we emerge from the forest in a small village, no shops or anything though, although, lucky for us we find a taxi, well a house with a taxi outside. We knock on the door and we are told taxi man is having lunch he will be with you in an hour, boo! We decide to walk to the tea shop, about 30 minutes in we see a taxi and decide it’s time to go and get dry and have a cup of tea and a scone or two! We spend the next few days exploring the local area and chilling out, we find a few nice restaurants and have a game of chess or two in the Starbucks!

On route to Kuala Lumpur, again and then on to Indonesia and the Gili Islands.

Good bye to Malaysia >>>

*I have found Malaysia to be a fun but strange country, the people can be very nice but also very strange and they seem to have mastered the art of staring and spitting to a ridiculous degree.
