The road less traveled has allowed for some interesting tales as we continued our road trip out of Tajikistan into Kyrgyzstan. While our journey took us through much of Tajikistan and a small portion of Kyrgyzstan; from the border to Osh, we found these countries to be somewhat similar. Perhaps Kyrgyzstan is more developed and the roads we experienced were in much better shape. But as we said, the... Read Full Entry

Simply great!
It's my kind of nomadic journey! Loved it. Yes tire repair in twenty minutes...amazing. And true, don't mess with the military. I still have to catch up with your early two blogs...falling behind MJ...

Simply great!
We will await your blogs. I know you can catch up. You must look into this trip. No reason to give foreign military any hassle....just move on.

Then there was the music
So many tales, so many exhilarating moments, so many mountains, so many moments to savour, so many laughs and grins, so many fabulous memories, traveling with dear friends old and new...dancing by the side of the road...listening to the Blues. How can you choose which of the thousands of pics and stories you can share to capture the vibe in a blog? What a fantastic time we had. Enjoyed the tastes in this blog. Reminds one that we had quite an adventure...reminds one that this is one of the great roadtrips of the World...not for everyone...but for those that do...fantastic! Miss you guys.

Then there was the music
I almost posted a photo of Shane dancing next to the car but I'm holding back on that one. That is only for those of us who had the joyful experience of traveling with Shane. We agree it is one of the great road trip of the World and we are happy to have shared it with you. Miss you guys.

There is never a dull moment on your trips is there? I love it. From sleeping on the floor (only 1 night) to sketchy border crossings you two make travel an adventure. Was fun seeing your pics and reading about a place I probably won't visit.

Never a dull moment
We would not have made this journey without Shane. He is a fantastic tour leader. We were thrilled to have beds all those nights but one.... although the night on the floor was comfy. It was a travel adventure and we have more stories to tell when we see you in October.

The hills are alive...
Another set of beautiful photos! I love that you got amongst it with the local food - our favourite way to experience a place is to eat what the locals eat, regardless of what those 'Foodies' think :)

The hills are alive....
Thanks for reading and commenting. The foods were good. We had a couple of people on the trip complaining about it but we ignored them as needed. These were kind and generous people and they shared every thing they had. It was a wonderful adventure. Flexibility is the key to travel. Otherwise you might as well stay home or go to a tourist resort. Nothing wrong with that if that is the experience you are looking for as I've done it myself. Tajik and Kyrg are amazing and well worth the effort.

Looks amazing - the water photos are beautiful! Glad to hear you fared well at all your checkpoints and enjoyed the local folks.

Well worth the rough ride
Thanks for reading and commenting. This was a trip of a lifetime. The people are wonderful and the scenery spectacular. So glad we went.

Amazing Adventure!
Great blog again! I like the structure of it - lots of tidbits of various pieces of information about the trip - very interesting in particular to read about the homestays and the border crossings! And what a stunning picture of the Black Lake - it must have been even more amazing to see in person. I also love the smallness of the world when travelling, and the fact that you met two fellow travel bloggers whilst in such a remote location! A great read indeed :)

Amazing adventure
Glad you enjoyed the snipits of information. We doubted few people would read the entire blog so this way they can pick and choose the pieces they want to read. A small, small world indeed .... and a large, wonderful travel community of bloggers. It was great meeting them.

Potholes
Love it! Great account of a great journey. There is something truly human about your blog - the sleeping on the floor in the care of local hospitality with simple foods. I always find that the more potholes a road has the more friendly the folks are at the end of it. Great catching up with your adventures after a month of no internet... A great way to spend my time at Nuuk airport, Greenland.

Potholes
You are very philosophical today.... I've never thought of the link between potholes and friendliness. Will have to consider that but on first glance I believe you are correct. MJ

I love this blog - we will just look at cows while the tyres fixed, the binoculars meeting binoculars, only an hour and a half to get processed! I smiled the whole way through this blog. Brilliant
