So an early breakfast and off to the train we go to have a day in Kanazawa. It seems we are really lucky as the train station only opened in March this year, previously you had to take a bus for over an hour after you had been on the train for a couple of hours. Thank goodness for progress.
So we arrive in Kanazawa and find the information desk where for once we find a lady who spoke really good English and she told me how to get to the garden and the castle plus the Samurai area. We purchase a bus ticket and off we trot to the Kenrokuen Garden. They say that this garden in spring is amazing all I can say is they are amazing in summer so I wish I could have seen them in spring with the cherry blossom. It was quite busy in the garden but still seemed tranquil - that is a sign of a great design. We walk over the Ishikawabashi Bridge to get to the Kanazawa Castle. Once again what a magnificent sight, however, it had been rebuilt so inside it did not feel the same as the Matsumoto Castle
where you felt you were walking in the shoes of the Japanese warriors. However, it was amazing and again they kept to the traditions on how it was originally built. It was getting really hot now so I said let jump back on the bus and go to the Samurai area. We jump off the bus and I did not look at the map but said we need to go to Nisha Chaya district next time look at the map Paula I say to myself as we were supposed to go to Naga-machi Buke Yashiki District, doesn't even look or sound the same! So after walking it seems miles I am starting to think I have got this wrong especially when we get stopped by 3 men who come from Columbia and we find out they were boxers!!!!!!
I decide this is really wrong and hail a taxi to Mike's disgust but all I could think of this searing heat and boxers from Columbia, not a good mixture hail a taxi now girl.
So the taxi takes us to Buke Yashiki District which is the Samurai District and we go around a Samurai House which was so peaceful.
If I would have brought a book with me I know where I would be sitting now and that is in the garden. What an amazing place so onwards and upwards to Omi-Cho market so back on the bus and off we pop to the market. We were a little bit late so most of the stalls were closing up but OMG this fish was amazing - if only I knew which fish they were. We stopped for lunch were I took the opportunity to have squid and carpaccio of fish from the market and Mike had a rice dish.
Back on the train we get and we are now back in the room where I am just writing this blog. So I am now up to date on my blogs and promise I will not slip again. We are off to Kyoto tomorrow for a few nights so planning needs to be done later on today.
Hope everyone at home is ok.
