Hello hello to all my friends who can be bothered to check my blog to see how Im going and hello hello to the people who have nothing else to do so decided they might check if Im still alive. So how is everyone? First of all I just want to thank all the people who can be bothered to write emails to me. Im sorry I haven't replied to them, or have taken ages to reply to them. The time I get a chance to go on the net is limited. I can usually get around to reading them but not replying. Ok so down to business, as most of you probably know its nearly time for me to head back to Australia. My contract with Kiroro ends on the 8th of April. Time has passed ... read more

I’m in Japan and drinking absinthe. What more can I say. I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Sapporo. I can go out anytime I want and meet these beautiful Japanese girls who are presented perfectly. And I can approach them and that night will be fantastic on any level you can imagine. But they are not a serious type of girl. Some time I feel like a tourist attraction. The kind of thing you want to have fun with, but don’t want to bring home to your family or your friends. If I can reconcile myself to that fact. I will have a wonderful time here in the land of the rising sun. Recently, I have taken in to of Sapporo’s most important events, the annual snow festival and the opening ... read more

We went up to the top island of Japan for Yuki Matsuri, the Snow Festival! It was exciting for me to have it snow on me in the streets of the city, but it lost its appeal when it got hard and started blowing in my eyes! Anyhow, the snow festival was really neat. There were 3 different areas for it - Susukino with ice sculptures, Odori Park with massive big snow sculptures, and Satoland with slides, a maze, snowman building etc. We met up with Shino and some of her friends on the work japan program, and went skiing/snowboarding on our second day to Rusutsu. It was really neat - it was really powdery snow so I couldn't even see my skis! Pictures speak a thousand words so I will just post a heap up ... read more

"Shouldn't you be working?" Hmm...yes, a thought that continuously entered my head as I departed for a 5 day trip to Hokkaido (the northern island of Japan). Many Japanese consider Hokkaido far away, and freezing cold...these are not so true. Sapporo is famous for two things: 1) The beer of the same name, and 2) The yuki matsuri (snow festival). The yuki matsuri swells the population from 1.8 million to almost 4 million. As the number of tourists that come for the week-long festival numbers around 2 million. Chris, Mike and I landed in Sapporo Thursday morning. They quickly headed to Furano (a ski resort area that we were staying at for the first two days) as I had to drudge over to the Canadian Consulate to apply for a new passport. I of course forgot ... read more

So THANKYOU KEAN im sorry that my blog is like an essay but I don't have time to edit and make it look pretty!!! So what's been happening recently? Nothing much really..... I had an awesome buy the other day. I was looking for a suede jacket with soft fur sorta lining for a while and I went into town with some friends and while they mucked around at the amusement arcade i shopped. Saw quite a few good ones but nothing I really wanted. Just as I was going to give up I stubbled across a nice jacket. It's a brown jacket (not a colour I've really worn before)but it was just my size and its well made (branded). But yeah I was considering for a while (even though it was 50% off ) and ... read more

Our last night in Japan was spent in Sapporo. Sapporo was very pretty, with lots of fairy lights in trees lining the streets. Our hotel was great and even had a bidet but had rice for breakfast. Unfortunately we missed the Sapporo snow festival by 2 days, but we managed to see some of the ice sculptures under construction. We did some more shopping (for Wii supplies) and had lunch at a yakitori restaurant (meat skewers). Then we headed back to Narita Airport for our flight to Vancouver. The toilet there had a button for "flushing noise"!! But it was kind of a cartoon sounding flushing-noise! ... read more

Kiroro, Hokkaido (in the middle of mountains) HI everyone in Perth and the rest of the world. How are all my friends? Well I have finally broken the seal and joined the rest of those crazy (deranged) bloggers. So it has no been over two months since I left dear old (warm) Perth for a freezing winter wonderland (no internet access, not sure if it is really a wonderland). Quite contrary to what I had imagined, my body got use to the below zero temperatures wuite quick. Perth being 36 degrees when i left and being between -5 and -15 degrees over here. Not sure if my busy friends in Perth have time to watch the news or check how the weather is like where their beloved friend Yorma is (haha) but Japan, unlike last year ... read more

Arrival Day We had an early flight from Hiroshima this morning. Bit of a hassle getting from our hotel, to the train station on the tram, then onto the bus to the airport, then checking in. We had been a bit concerned about the 15kg luggage limit - which we were well over - but noone seemed to care very much and check in went quite smoothly. Easy flight and got into Hokkaido about lunchtime to meet our Ski Japan rep. She had to meet a few more people so we had a bit of time to grab lunch and check out the airport - always exciting. The bus ride out to the village was a good 2.5 hours long but was actually quite a nice ride. The roads were good and it was just fantastic ... read more
