The next morning it was still overcast and raining on and off, so we gave the 'hogs' a rest, grabbed the umbrella, and opted to walk/take the metro. Our first stop was Ohori Park, a large, gorgeous, park with a pond in the middle of it. The pond was previously used as a moat for Fukuoka Castle (whose ruins we visited later in the day). After walking a semi circle around the pond, we found the Fukuoka Art Museum. I thought the ticket to see all of the exhibits was expensive, about $13, but it was totally worth it to see the Ancient Egypt in Torino exhibit. Day #4 2월 19일 여행 넷째 날 벳부 시웨이브호텔에서 아침을 먹고 체크아웃함. 벳부역에서 08시 48분에 출발하는 특급 열차 소닉14호를 타고 하카타역에서 11시 56분에 도착함. 제수씨와 해나를 센트랄 호텔에 잠시 머물게 하고 동생과 나는 후쿠오카의 시내(텐진)에 있는 신한은행(한국은행)을 찾아감. 그곳의 일본인 직원으로부터 크레디트 카드로 엔화를 인출하는 방법을 알게됨. 세븐일레븐ATM에서 2만엔을 인출함. 호텔로 돌아와 체크인을 하고 柳川로 갈 준비를 함. 점심은 맥도날드에 가서 햄버거 세트를 4개 구입하고 일본의 사철(私鐵)인 니시테츠후쿠오카역(텐진역)에서 야나가와 행 특급 열차를 타고(13:31) 야나가와로 감. 야나 가와역에 도착(14:10). 우중에 야나 가와 가와쿠다리를 즐김(약 40분) 비가 내리는 야나 가와 가와쿠다리를 경험했다. 나름대로 멋이 있었다. 뱃사공 할아버지는 멋있는 분이다. 내가 일본어로 할아버지한테 “당신 한국에서 유명한 사람입니다.” 하니깐 웃으면서 “그래요!” 했다. 자신의 일과 야나 가와의 가와쿠다리의 역사에 대해서 상당한 자부심이 대단했다. 뜻은 몰랐지만 가와쿠다리 도중에 간간히 들려주는 옛 노래가 듣기가 좋았다. 여기는 벌써 매화꽃이 피기 시작하고 벚꽃들은 꽃망울을 피운 ... read more

日中は暑かやけど朝晩は冷えるとね～。 なーんて。使い方が合ってるかどうかわかりませんが １２日より飛行機でぴゅーんと博多へ行ってきました。 誕生日を迎えたばかりの彼と２泊３日の旅。 一言で感想を述べるならば、行き当たりばったりも悪くないてことです。 初日はまず大宰府で梅ヶ枝餅を食べ、天満宮で牛頭をなでなで。 きっとこれからはWalking Dictionaryこと生き字引きとなるでしょう？ その後、九州国立博物館で世界各国の仮面を被り、遊んだのち足湯。 ひとまずホテルに戻って仮眠をとりました。 寝て起きると、流れ流れて、彼の知り合いに加え、その人の好きな博多美人やら 仙台から遊びにきている人やらパティシエバンドマンやらフランス人やら･･･ 初めましてだらけのメンバーが集まり、黒豚天国というお店で夕食を食べました。 そしてそのまま噂の親富孝通りへ行き、夜の町を拝見させて頂きました。 博多、なかなかアツイです。 夜中には中州に並ぶ屋台のラーメン「一竜」を食べ、就寝。 ２日目。現在、日本では東京と福岡でしかやってないということで 劇団四季のライオンキングへ。 朝、とりあえずチケットだけ取りにキャナルシティへ。 そして帰ってきてまた仮眠。 公演が始まると、大西ライオンが浮かんできてきてしましたが、さすが日本通算５９７２回目。 挿入歌がすべて歌えるということもあり、とても面白かったです。 その後は天神で買い物三昧。 博多、やっぱりアツイです。 日も暮れてきたところで市役所の広場で行われているアジアフェスタに行き堪能。 晩ご飯には芸能人ご用達のもつ鍋料理屋「一慶」に行きました。ココはかなりお勧めです。 そんなこんなで３日目は佐賀へ行きました。　　　佐賀日記へとつづく... read more

Basically, Nicole and my sport experience in Japan can be summed up in two words: sumo and baseball. For some background on sumo, see the Osaka II entry. In our down hours, Nicole and I would often find ourselves catching highlights from a sumo tournament in Osaka. First of all, it was really easy to follow with but a limited knowledge of Japanese and secondly we had somebody to root for, namely Yokozuna Hakuho, who we spotted in street clothes outside the arena when we were in Osaka. I think one of the experiences that I will probably never forget is the Fukuoka Hawks game we attended in the Yahoo! Dome. That's right, Japanese baseball (yakyu) is way ahead of the curve in terms of the corporate sponsorship game. Personally, I'm glad that the Anaheim Angels ... read more
