Saturday, 17th October 2015 This is my first time taking a Singapore Airlines flight from Changi Terminal 3. And this would also be the longest duration for me on a SQ flight. My flight time to Fukuoka (Hakata) would take about 6 hours and 30 minutes. Checking in on a late Saturday night for my red-eye flight is not something I thoroughly enjoy given that I'm a relatively light sleeper. However, since the SIN-FUK route operates on this ungodly timing, there was not much of a choice as far as direct flight goes. Hopefully, by the time my flight touch down in Japan at 8.35am the following morning, I would not be too exhausted from the whole journey. I was lucky to be seated along the emergency row with a wide leg room. Breakfast was served ... read more

And so, after some two plus weeks, it was time to bid farewell to wonderful Korea, and say hello to enigmatic Japan, as I took the overnight Camellia passenger ferry from Busan to Fukuoka. Long ferry trips always cause some apprehension in my mind, given my past less-than-pleasant experiences in the likes of Myanmar and Indonesia, but I was of course fairly confident that this would be a much more comfortable trip. And how so! Despite purchasing the cheapest available 2nd class ticket, which pretty much entitled me to just a mattress in a room, the ferry ride was as pleasant as I could have conceivably hoped for, and I arrived in Fukuoka satisfied and hoping it's a sign of good things to come. Fukuoka is considered a relatively large Japanese city, and certainly the largest ... read more

Day 11. The return home. First leg. A lazy start to the day. A buffet breakfast where everyone chose scrambled egg and hash browns. Fish in abeyance for a while, as was sleeping on the floor - we hope. The SurfJet was away promptly on a smooth sea in brilliant sunshine where we had to endure an American baseball game on the screen where there was more posing than action. Along the way we saw about a dozen fins sticking out of the water and swimming around, maybe Dolphins, we could not see. The ferry stands up in the water and whizzes along at a rare speed being propelled by a jet engine and leans over nicely as it spins into harbour - quite impressive. The Japanese have some quite technological kit around. They drive very ... read more

Unsere ... read more

FINALLY…. Sunshine and Fukuoka, Japan Note: We are at sea and the photos do not want to publish! Will send photos of Fukuoka when we get to shore. 7am in full sunshine, for the first time in more than 2 weeks, we came into the beautiful Port of Hakata in Fukuoka, Japan on the Sea of Japan. If I knew any Japanese at all, I might consider moving here part of the year. It is a city of 1.2 million but feels smaller. The streets are all tree lined with old interspersed with modern high rises. Yes, there are 7-11’s, Kinkos, Mc Donalds and all the things you’d expect to see in any large city but there are also beautiful stores, parks, Shinto Shrines and clean spacious beaches. The first place we visited this morning was ... read more
