I'm using Hotmail att he moment as there are no cheap international phone linese available to us my little pocket emailer. This afternoon I will try one of the international telephone offices to see whetehr I have more luck - most will probably be like the Post Office - with no stamps! Yestarday was very quiet but we spent thre afternoon going to Tanah Lot Temple towatch the sun go down. Very touristy but it was great to sit and watch the waves hit the little island that the temple was perched on. Last night we again ate at our favourite little haunt and spent the evening talking to a couple from Norway who have a son on AFS exchange in America. For several years I'd been focusing on my Sydney rock and roll band with all the puritanical zeal of the Blues Brothers, to the extent that Mind's Eye was the focus of my existence. The idea of gallivanting around the world to visit exotic locations never even crossed my mind during these band years, that is until my lead guitarist and bass player informed me they planned to cement their relationship through the sacrament of marriage. 1992………..2MTHS-1st CYCLING TRIP-1300kms ACROSS INDONESIA 26/7/92 Ubud (46.2km 1219.8km) I arrived in Ubud in 2 hrs from Padangbai. The road was noisy, polluted and busy. Not pleasant at all and I thought I would be relieved to get to Ubud, but boy has it changed! I found it hard to find a place as there was so much choice and it was more expensive. The streets are absolutely lined with shops. I spent part of the morning at Puri Lukisan, Ubud’s Art Museum, which was opened in 1956. The gardens remain unchanged but two of the large buildings have fallen into disrepair and are not used at all. For our last day on Bali it was almost compulsory that we got ourselves down to the beach for some serious surfing. Some success, but there was an awful long way to go before any of us could call ourselves surfers. The flight was at some god-awful time of the morning again, so we were not planning on going to sleep that night. We thought we would make it a late night so we hit the bars and then a club. There was this one bar called SC's that was particularly popular. They had a bizarre promotion in that you got a free SC's tee shirt when you had downed a certain number of beers.
