Almost a week into Bali Bali is beautiful, but is also totally crazy. Flying into Kuta was a wild time and I was ready to get out of that wild city. The streets were packed with people selling hats, tee-shirts, and crap. Everywhere we went people grabbed at our hands and tried to pulls us around. I learned quickly to hold my hands behind my back. look down, and mumble "tidah" as I tried to dodge the dodgey people. Tommy and I stayed for two nights at an expensive hotel right by the beach and even though the pool was beautiful is was packed full of crazy drunken "Aussie" tourists. Which are the worst kind. So, on wednesday, I asked Tommy sweetly to get me the fuck out of Kuta. He just smiled and went down ... read more

Day 6 Oct 6th The crash Well I might as well just get it out of the way. Today wasn’t great. We had a terrible crash on the scooter and Peter was left with significant road rash. It could have been a lot worse. At dinner tonight we agreed to the fact that if there was on coming traffic we would have become Balinese road kill. We were about 30 minutes into our trip to Uluwatu Temple. The roads to this village are narrow and windy in most spots. The area offers such an amazing flavor of the Balinese culture. The streets are full of old architecture and local elders tending to their stores. I was taking in the sights snapping pics as we drove. Peter made a sound, I looked up and we were in ... read more

Was so ein paar Jahre des Nichtstuns ... read more

We really enjoyed our pit stop in Kuta. After 2 months on the road, it was a perfect place to get laundry done, eat some foreign (non-Asian!) food for a change and take things easy. But after a few days paddling around on Kuta's lazy shorebreak, we were keen to see some of the waves that make Indonesia perhaps the world's most famous surf-destination. For that we caught a lift down to the southern Bukit Peninsula, and as night was falling, checked ourselves into a small homestay close to the legendary surf break of Ulu-Watu. We sat down to eat with the charismatic owner, who had hair down to his waist sprouting from a knot on his forehead. As we were half way through a delicious tomato soup, he confided in us that he's actually an ... read more
