The Pushkar camel fair has unwittingly become the ‘face of India’ to the Western world. How do I know that? Any stock photo site when searched for ‘India’ will throw up colorful images of Rajasthan - camels featured quite prominently among them. Turbaned camel herders, comical camels silhouetted against the sunset, the proverbial Rajasthani dancer wearing a brass nathni …I definitely owed my camera a trip to Pushkar. Moreover, it was just days away from the famed camel fair. Our next stop was Pushkar, a small, highly religous town where they believe in the healing powers of the lake waters. We arrived at about midday to find, again, that our prebooked rooms had been given away to someother people! As the hotel was beautiful and had the most amazing terrace overlooking the lake we were determined to stay there no matter what. The only room available for our 1 night stay was a delux room that we all 4 to share! After waiting to speak to the manager for over an hour, Lou quite literally told the manager how much we were going to pay and no messing and we were in and lapping up the luxury! Hi all We left early in order to arrive in Pushkar in the early afternoon for the camel fair. After the insanity of some of the other cities, Pushkar was tame, relaxing, quiet.. or maybe we just felt that way cause we were not being harassed the same way as we were in the bigger cities. Our hotel had a pool, which was a huge plus, but Pushkar is a dry town, which was not so good. Luckily, Beebal had warned us and we had ample supplies of beer, rum and vodka. The hotel staff must think the westerners are insane. I am sure after we buzzed through they did.. Haha We went down to the "Fair Grounds". I have never seen so many camels in my life. Nuit au Pushkar Palace .. un vrai palace avec des serveurs tres beaux en blanc a turban orange, une chambre confortable avec des draps, television, une baignoire...des photos en noir et blanc de Maharadjas dans les couloirs... Dans les autres hotels il n y avait pas de draps et heureusement j avais mon petit sac de couchage tout fin tout leger en soie... La television ca ne me manquait evidemment pas dans les autres hotels mais c est interessant a voir une fois... un monde a la fois occidentalise avec pubs pour savon, dethol, telephone portable mais avec des femmes en sari... J ai tres bien dormi sauf qu a 4h du matin a commence a retentir une priere retransmise par haut parleur... avant de me reveiller vraiment j ai reve qu il s agissait d ... read more

D avance soyez indulgende pour les fautes, clavier a moitie efface avec de l Hebreu (oui oui!0 par dessus. J ai donc quitte la petite ville Bundi hier pour Pushkar. 5h de bus et pas un deluxe cette fois ci, un veritable tape cul, parfois j avais l imprssion que le bus faisait des bonds de 30cm. Bus qui s arretait bcp et aui se vidait et se remplissait. A un moment on etait 5 sur une banquette de 3. Mon sac a dos au milieu de la rangee avec tout le monde qui marche dessus..... sorry fabienne! (Fabienne D qui m a prete son super sac a dos speciale ladies pour epouser nos courbes.
