Maybe it was the slug on the bathroom floor. Or perhaps it was the dog with no name. Whichever, I’m quite sure now I’m in India. “That’s terrible!” I cried to the dog’s master, Mr. V, who was taking me around his small village of Painkulam in Kerala. She was so faithful, protecting him from danger (he said HE was protecting HER, but I know better.) She wanted pets and came to me to say hello, but he chastised her, saying, “no touch.” I longed to pet her brown head with sleepy eyes, but Mr. V was now protecting me from dog with no name. He introduced me to half a dozen people in the village—all very friendly and curious about my presence here. I met one 86-year-old grandma as she sat on her porch, reciting ... read more

Hello all and a very merry (if belated) Christmas to you all, Sorry for the lateness of this blog; I have been inundated (mainly by my mother) for a requests of a new entry for a while. The tardiness however has been caused by the arrival of my old man; who in true Bloodworth fashion has had me walking everywhere, exploring everything and generally not stopping. I therefore have not had the time (even a spare half an hour) to let you lovely people (who need something to read while you are wrapped up warm with a blizzard outside) know what I have been up to on my ever continuing travels. So to start things off I think I will tell you all about the arrival of my father and all of the exciting things we ... read more

Hello everyone! Glad to hear from so many of you, its great to hear that you are all enjoying the blog so much, we will try and update it as much as possible but sometimes its hard to find internet cafes. Since leaving Kanniyakumari we headed to Kovalum only a hour or so away, Kovalam is a beach resort which is extremely touristic, it has been hit big time by the package holiday crew and is full of middle age whites from england. The actual place is nice with four beautiful beaches, it just gets a bit much with all the touts! especially the fruit sellers on the beach "hello pineapple...mango...papaya.......coconut!", but it was our first taste of beach life so we enjoyed it staying three nights as we manged to blag our way into a ... read more

We arrived in the morning after a disgusting night on the bus. I'm not sure if I'd ever been that dirty before. We grabbed some chai and went on a hotel hunt, a task that proved a little more difficult than i anticipated. This may have stemmed largely from the ending of a large festival and also that the word 'hotel' isn't hotel. 'hotel' reads 'restaurant'. A fact we gathered after asking there were rooms at a few different locations and being offered dosas... Eventually we found a place within our budget, showered and gave suddhit kumar a call. He was fantastic and offered to pick us up in an hour. We went out for breakfeast with him and Victor. Victor is adorable and very excited for his wedding tomorrow. Suddhit Kumar is married with a ... read more

So after leaving Vattapaarathi at about midday, bit late, but when there's 11 of you to shift out of a place it takes a while. Got over to Trichur and sorted hotel out...room rates sky high, but didn't want to take advantage and stay in house again. Arrived and met up with a few more people from the Ashram and varkala...so now there were 15 of us....bloody hell from one extreme to another!! Travelling on your own is great as you get to do stuff really quickly, going to 15 is just rediculous...but wicked to share the experience with. the Pooram was awesome...I'd seen the pics in LP and fancied it...so to come back up made sense as I could easily get across to Munnar from hear before heading on to Madurai, which was my original ... read more
