Hi all! Just a quick note to let you know that we' ve had a sudden change in our plans. Tomorrow we go to Delhi and on Thursday we fly to Nepal!! The situation there has stabilized so we are going to pursue our dream of hiking the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. For anyone who has seen Michael Palin's "Himalaya", it is the same hike that he did. Spectacular views! Have to go pack. Hope you are all well. K & M... read more

Coucou...

When we reached Manali it was about 10-30pm and we had to tag on to a queue of traffic waiting to get over the one little bridge. After about 40 mins (and one hit and run later - not by our jeep, and the bloke was OK) we decided to get out and walk. We didn't say anything to the jeep driver as we left, by now he was best left well alone - and whatever was to be said wouldn't have been good. To cut a long story short - Manali town wasn't nice (Indian Blackpool on speed). We followed the guide book and went to Vashisht which was about 3 km back along the road (where we'd got out of the bloody jeep!). Vashisht was nice although it was heaving with stoned Israeli's. Now ... read more

Manali cream and the Dalai Lama We had some small business to attend to in Delhi; Erik had to get his teeth fixed. A consultation, an X-ray and a cap on his broken tooth for the ridiculously cheap price of 500rs/£6/80kr. After that we planned to leave the city in the evening, but of course our bus was cancelled, so much to our displeasure we ended up staying an extra night. We finally got to Manali after a 15 hour bus journey and it felt great to be able to breathe the fresh mountain air. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I took my first glimpse of the Himalayan range as I woke up on the bus. The views on the way up were truly incredible... I’ve seen pictures before, but it’s nothing compared to the ... read more

When I got to Manali I was a little restless after two days on the bus so I did quite a lot of walking between the old town (where I stayed), the new town, and Vasisht - a hippy hang-out with some hot springs and some nice Isrealis and Germans, and a lost Australian - lost because i think he was getting a little too stoned. Manali was very beautiful with some very high snow capped peaks visible from the valley around the river Beas. On the second day in Manali is started to rain so I stayed a couple more nights and meet some more Isrealis and a couple of French guys who had spent a year travelling the world to record music on a grant. I also found a very nice Tibetan restaurant and ... read more
