We though the imam had kept us awake again last night. But no, apparently it was a cricket match at the floodlit ground down the road. The game went on till 4.00am! Sun Temple - Modhera Spend a day to visit two archeological marvels of North Gujarat region - Sun Temple of Modhera and Rani's Vav (step well) of Patan. Modhera, famous for the Sun Temple, is about 100 km (1 1/2 hrs) from Ahemdabad (1/2 hr from Mehsana). Built in 1029 AD, has stood up to the nature and Muslim plunderers. Temple devoted to Sun God has three main areas: Surya Kund or Rama Kund, Assembly Hall and Sanctum Sanctorum. Words cannot describe the details of the carvings on every inch of the temple. Photos speak for themselves. The temple is not used as 'temple' - in the sense that no 'pooja' or religious ritual is performed here. So you don't have to take off your shoes while going inside the temple! Patan is 45 min drive ... read more
