I went to the Eastern Beginning of the Great Wall on Oct. 3 of 2012. Hushan - 'Tiger Mountain' in English, is so named because the two towering peaks are like two tiger ears pricking up into the sky. It covers an area of four square kilometers (1.54 square miles) and its main peak measures 146.3 meters (1,080 feet). In history, the mountain was always regarded as an important fortress because it guarded the safety of Dandong City in Liaoning Provience and is the eastern gate way to China. So logic dictated that a section of Great Wall along Hushan Mountain be built to take up the commanding heights. The Hushan Great Wall, lying on the Yalu River, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Dandong City, Liaoning Province, and facing North Korea across the river, was built to ... read more

Another night in the train. We arrived in Dalian around 11am. Because of its nice seaside, good fish restaurants and a lot of green space in the city, Dalian is supposed to be the most liveable city in the whole of China. Finding the hostel was easy because the city is not too big. The start was a little disappointing because even though we changed the dates for our stay in the hostel 2 days in advance, the owner was not willing, to give as at least a little refund back. Nothing. Anyway, we started with some pretty good seafood and strolled around town afterwards. The weather was good and the city really felt different in comparison to all the other chinese cities I have been to so far. It was more relaxed and due to ... read more

I started my travel from Dongguan to Guangzhou where my flight was to take place. I left my place later then I would have wanted to because I misplaced my mobile phone. I got to the bus station where I boarded the express bus to Guangzhou. The scenery along the way was beautiful laced with shrubbery and trees along the highway. I got to Guangzhou at around 12:30 and went straight to the subway station and I had to look at the map and try to figure out where I was. One of the security guards were kind enough to help me by explaining where I was and how to get to my destination. I realized that it was going to be a long ride to where I was going. I had to transfer to three ... read more

We had the pleasure of making a weekend trip to Qianshan Mountain. It is in Northeast China about 20 kilometers away from Anshan City. We were with a group from work. Qianshan ( Mountain of A Thousand Peaks) because its peaks interweave one another nearly amount to one thousand. It is the sacred land of Buddhism and Taoism with Buddhist and Taoist temples and monasteries. The scenery was beauiful with many paved foot paths that climb steeply up the hillsides through thick forest. These foot paths lead past, Steele, honouring the dead, small shrines, pagodas and temples. These are active temples to this day. Cable cars to several of the scenic peaks, them more climbing after that. I have to say I did not make it all the way to the top, there is over 1000 ... read more

End of the school year The school year 2011-2012 went pretty fast. I started the year teaching Kindergarten which I absolutely love and is one of my favorite ages and grades to teach, but in December a new teacher teaching grade 1 decided to leave in the middle of the year and I step up and ask to move up and I got promoted to teach grade 1 from January to June. If I had a blast teaching Kindergarten, you canĀ“t imagine how much I enjoyed, loved and the fun I had teaching grade 1, plus I taught with an amazing teacher and friend Agnes Franklin. The last weeks of school in June went pretty fast and were super busy, between teaching, assessing, meetings and social gatherings I practically had no time off. It felt good ... read more
