I love this city! Nanchang is so different from Beijing. In Beijing, international people were abundant. Nanchang is a city in the center of China, ringed on three sides by mountains and on the fourth by the massive Yangtze River. She is a city of 5 million people and so far the only non-Chinese I haves seen are adopting parents. In our hotel there are Canadians, French and Americans - all here to adopt Chinese baby girls. The trip to Wal-Mart on Tuesday for diapers and formula was quite an event. I loved the exhilaration and feel of the city - Sandy wasn’t too thrilled - and it was interesting to be looking over the heads of a 1,000 people. Hi Jonathan and Nathan (and friends), It’s Mama. Yesterday was quite a day! We went to a government office where Abby’s adoption became official! We then went to Wal Mart. What an adventure. It was more crowded than anything I have ever experienced. People were shoulder to shoulder, bumping into each other. They were mostly Chinese, of course, and were very interested in these Americans with a Chinese baby. Many would stop and stare at us. Several times there would be a crowd of people standing around us and staring. Abby was very, very fussy. She was unhappy most of the afternoon. I think the crowd bothered her and she was hungry. Tuesday Morning Abby slept GREAT! Harrison got to give her a bottle at 4:30 A.M. and it was glorious. As I held her, she looked down and rubbed the air on my arms and cackled! She has just had her first bath and laughed all the way through it. Abby loves Rebekah and Sarah and watermelon and banana bread and congi (rice soup) and noodles. When she gets a little tired, all she wants is her mommy, something that thrills me (and Sandy)! More later… ... read more

GOTCHA!!! Oh how beautiful is the one given to us! Monday started full of anticipation. Everyone was all excited beyond anything I have ever seen. The group boarded the plane for Nanchang and landed there (or here) at about 2 PM and collected our luggage. Once on the bus to the hotel, our guide (Lenekar) informed us that our babies would be in the conference room at our hotel at 4. The suspense went off the charts! Upon arriving at the hotel, Sandy got our room and some toys ready for Abby while I paid out mega bucks in fees and turned over some paperwork. JiangXi 05/04/05 Eager to get closer to the minority area, so I left Fujian into JiangXi province, the journey rolled over well paved highway, it took less than 4 hours for more than 200km and delivered me in GanZhou, a big and confused city which can date back to the War-state period, an important military strategic place in that time, here you still can see part of the city wall and gates, of course it had been rebuild! there are some more historic interest and couple of temple, a cave that you can visit, but I am more interest in the floating bridge which was there since ancient time, of course again... rebuild! it was laid with wooden plates which supported by many wooden boats. every morning at 9 they will open up part of the ... read more
