11.07.06 We had a bit of a lay in this morning until 9am. The 4 of us then headed off for a day of shopping! First stop was Psar Tuol Tom Pong, the russian market. It was ok, we bought another christmas pressie and a little something for ourselves, but the pathways are so narrow and it's so hot in there that after an hour or 2 we had to get out into some fresh air. As it had been a long walk to the market we treated ourselves to a tuk tuk ride to Psar O Russei, another market where they sold mainly electrical goods but also they had the food section. There were lots of live chickens, ducks and geese. I say live, they were very deffinitely not doing so well. Time for lunch ... read more

Hey everyone! Well after the amazing Angkor we planned on taking the 'fast' ferry to Battambang and were told it would be a good 4hrs trip, since the water level was adequte. Well, a bum numbing 10hrs later we made our destination and despite the hunger pangs, it was still an interesting spectacle to see all the boat people and their interesting ways of life. I guess we should have known the boat ride would take awhile when we broke down 5mins after leaving! In Battambang, we were just into chilling after the long trip, and we couldn't decide what to do. So, instead of dithering we went out the next morning to Kompong Chhnang, a nice little town which is a minimal tourist destination. We had a great little countryside tour on a moto. Booked a tuc-tuc driver (Wei) for our 3-day jaunt of Angkor Wat temples (thanks to Andy for the tip!), and for $10 a-day, we had our own personal chauffeur who dutifully carted us all over Siem Riep and the Angkor complex in the pimp-mobile chariot with white faux-leather seats! God bless Wei, but we worked him hard, with sunrises and sunsets, plus lunchtime trips back to town for some cold fruit shakes. The begging in Angkor was possibly the worst I have seen to date, with children mobbing you thrusting trinkets in your face or worse, just following you, tugging at your hand and clothes, whining "one dollllaaaar, give me moneeeeeey". The saddest sight was watching a policeman who was keeping watch at one of the temples trying to sell his Police Badge to tourists as ... read more

So After a fun and luxurious time in Thailand, Jordina and I head for the well inticipated Cambodia. We both have been wanting to come here for a long time, Jordan ,because Angelina Jolie comes here, and myself, because I heard that the people here who cool, and the jungle is vast! And We would not be let down at all. At the Cambodian/Thai border, we get hastled by all the children trying to pickpocket the white peoiple, and headed for the currency exchange. We had taken an 18 hours boat/bus trip to get this far , so we were exhausted. We got a horrible exchange there, and didn't realize it until later. We were probally giped 60,000 reil each, which is a lot of cash here, and then we found out that the country was ... read more

Sunday 9th July Paul - Had a nice day in bed as I was ill. I bet you all really wanted to know that. We were thinking of catching the bus to Bangkok tomorrow but we decided against that now as I didn't really want to be needing to go 'poo' in the middle of a 12 hour bus journey. Hold that sexy thought... Laura - I'd just like to add a little message to Mark here. I hold you fully responsible for Paul's illness as when I spoke to you on the phone the other day the first thing you asked was "have you got the shits yet?". CLEARLY you tempted fate. Paul - Felt better by the end of the day and we went to get something to eat. The children here really are ... read more

There are few places I've been in the world that are truly awe-inspiring...the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall are perhaps the only two. Other places are amazing, like Salisbury Cathedral or the Forbidden City, but they are places that can be described in words and the pictures taken of them can tell the whole story. The Grand Canyon, the Great Wall and now Angkor are places that are beyond my description, so I'll try to let my photos do the talking, although none of them really does justice. Jackie and I got three-day passes ($40 each) and hired a local tuk-tuk driver (a motorbike with a covered trailer and a padded seat) for another $40 for three days…so we completely blew our budget for Cambodia. But it was worth it. Three days is enough to ... read more

So today we were going to do the main things people come to Phnom Penh to do, the Killing Fields and S21. So not a happy day of fun ahead. After breakfast the 4 of us (Andy, Kylie, Jon and myself) walked to S21, Toul Sleng Museum. Straight away we were hounded by tuk tuk drivers, motos and beggers showing off their missing limbs and burnt faces. For those of you who don't know what this museum is I, Melissa, shall tell you. In 1975 the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia. Pol Pot, the guy in charge, wanted to make it a communist country so everybody was equal, but still there became 2 classes, everyone and the Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot abolished all money, all food and put the calender to year 0 and wanted to ... read more

Singapore 5/9 - Switching continents I landed in this tiny country. Checked out Sentosa Island which was a bit over-the-top touristy. The night safari zoo was cool and riding a bike around Pulao Ubin during a massive monsoon turned out to be a lot of fun. Pulao Tioman 5/14 - Got into Malaysia and hit some culture shock. The heavily Islamic population took some getting used to - lots of stares and unfriendliness. Took the ferry out to this island off the east coast and shared a bungalow on a tiny beach. The scene was very quiet and empty. The food was excellent though, fresh shark for dinner for only $5. Kuantan 5/16 - This province capital was awful. Unfriendly people and nothing to do. My hotel room had more roaches and bugs than I had ... read more

Alright everyone... attached below are some more pics of the Angkor temples, as well as a few pics from my days in Phnom Penh (capital of Cambodia). As you can see from the pictures, the Angkor temples were truly amazing.. (note: i visited about 12-15 different temples/sites.. and so i don't remember where i took some of the pictures).. also. as you can see from the pictures.. even though phonm penh's recent history is very dark, the country, and the city itself has changed drastically over the past 3 decades.. as evident by the ability for foreigners to pay a small amount of money to fire crazy weapons. Rocket Launcher was on the menu (no joke), but, i couldn't quite afford that much, so I had to settle for the 47.... read more

The Journey After experiencing some bad roads on my previous travels in India I didn’t think it was possible for road conditions to be any worse. Well, I was wrong. Apparently the Thai Government pay Cambodia not to fix the roads from the Thai border to Siem Reap, as they make more money from the flights! The roads were so bad that every few minutes we went over large holes mostly made by old landmines; the guys at the front of the bus would all turn round, watch and giggle as Tony would crack his head on the steel roof nearly everytime! I fortunately being a bit smaller didn't have that problem. ;-) Siem Reap It was a huge relief especially for my sore ass when we finally arrived at Siem Reap (120km & 7 hours ... read more
