Hey everybody, I left Cambodia this morning after several days of seeing some of the worlds greatest religous monuments. The temples of Angkor were amazing. There is so much detail in their carvings and architecture, and I dont think they could be recreated today using their methods. The other day I got a tour of the country side and the jungle. I probably rode on the back of a moto for five hours. But I did get to see a lot. We went into the jungle to the mountains where I made another hike up to the top to see the waterfall. Also at the top was a river which was completly covered in carvings on the riverbed. It was pretty cool. I didnt get to take many pictures because my last battery is almost dead. ... read more

Monday 26th June Paul - Left Phnom Penh on the late bus to Kampot at about 1pm. A good reason for the late bus - we are lazy and couldn't be bothered to get up for the early one. Not that this should be a problem, the bus only takes 2 hours. Even factoring in delays we'd surely be there by about 4pm. Surely... We were the only English speakers on the bus so as 4pm came and went I looked at Laura with slight concern. When would we be arriving in Kampot? Is this even the bus to Kampot? Why do I always need the toilet on these buses? Has that guy got TWO pigs on his motorbike? Another 20 minutes later we pulled into Kep, a extremely tiny beach side village where we were ... read more

Well, after 25 some hours I have finally arrived. This is going to be short and sweet because I'm tired and hungry and I need to get back to my guesthouse and take care of both of those issues. The trip was just about as I expected. It was actually harder getting out of DC with all of the rain delays than it was to navigate the airports in Taiwan and Bangkok. I breezed through customs and immigration and met my tuk-tuk driver out front of the airport (ride in a tuk-tuk, that's one thing to mark off my list). I even got to see two pigs on the back of a moto while riding to the guesthouse (that's two things off my list. Okay, the pigs weren't really on my list but after seeing it, ... read more

well...it could quite possibly be classed as the best weekend of the trip...and certainly one of the best birthdays of my life...i'm not gonna bore you with details of how just minutes after arriving from PP I was on the beach sipping a thick fruit smootie and having a massage...or details of our rooftop 'penthouse' apartment at 'Eden', our beautiful wooden guesthouse situated on 'Serendipity' beach.... nope..i won't talk about the long days of walking along white sands and eating freshly caught lobsters (6 for $1)..or the long nights of drinking 'Mekong' buckets and awful red wine (who were we trying to fool huh?? good wine in Cambodia??) and dancing away to J5 and Cut Chemist(!!) with Hugh from Utopia (a heavenly beach shack bar which was demolished the day after we left to make way ... read more

Hello People. From where I last left off, I was in Bangkok, and I spent a few more days looking around and checking out all the crazy cheap clothes and DVDs and stuff like that, but after a few days I got a bit bored again and decided to head to Cambodia. I bought a ticket for just 250 Baht, which is about 4 pounds, all the way from one country to another, I couldnt believe it. The day before I left I pumped into Ben and Anne, friends from the Cook Islands, right at the beginning of my trip. It was totally by chance, I had heard that they were in Bangkok, then I saw them walking down the street, so I spent the day watching films and buying crap with them, which was ... read more

Later that day we caught the bus to Stung Treng. Stung Treng lies on the Mekong River further north, and is a very popular way of either crossing between Laos and Cambodia. Unforunately, not many tourists chose to spend any time in Stung Treng, which is actually not fair, seeing that it is a vey charming town. However, a pretty tight schedule didn't leave us much time to enjoy the town, or so we thought. We arrived quite late, and of course were greeted by several guest house representatives touting their guest house. We decided to follow one guy to his guest house, but were rather disapointed with the standard of the place. Yes, it was very cheap (US$3) but it was dark, dirty, and musty. When I pointed out the squat toilet to the guy, ... read more
