After nearly a fortnight of relaxing and having a break from the life of constantly rolling on, it was time to roll on once again! We caught the early bus to Trat, then another staright to the Cambodain border. On arrival at the border we completed all the paperwork to pass through and headed through to no-mans land. Instantly being bombarded by sales people offering all kinds of services, things that I daren't even repeat. Entering Cambodian territory it was like a different world, very hectic and hard work. We completed our visa's and were pestered constantly until agreeing to get in a car to go into town. Town was Kaoh Kong and not what I would deem a town but a big village, with dust roads, no pavements, very few cars but lots of bikes. ... read more

Back on the ferry to the mainland, only a 30 minute hop. I was approached by a friendly Thai fellow who offered me a lift to Trat (the nearest town) for only 50 baht. Ok, says I. His boss had a van and we wouldn't leave until it was full. Through sign language I explained to him my unfortunate flip-flop situation and he took pity and gave me a lift to a nearby shop where I obtained an ill-fitting pair of flip-flops. I am *really* REALLY starting to hate flip-flops. We had a something approximating a conversation (via thai phrasebook and loads of sign lingo) before setting off to Trat about 1hr later. In Trat I got a cheap room (200 baht) which was decent enough with hot shower and flushing toilet. I found a restaurant ... read more

Off on the tutTut to the same boat at 08:30 and this time there are 9 of us including the dutch couple from yesterday. It should only take 1.5 hours to get there but after 45 minutes we lose one of the props again due to a hessian cement sack wrapping around the shaft - this is a common occurrence says Mark, our guide again. He and Jason who owns Oasis are both from Southampton and have founded the CSSC - Cambodian Saints Supporters Club - they are staunch Southampton fans and I reminisce with them about the times when we had Shearer, Barry horne, Rod Wallace, Jimmy Case, tim Flowers, Jason Dodd, Glen Cockerill, Jeff Kenna etc etc - a great attacking side in those days. Anyway we are slowed up by only having one ... read more

After a week of work and not much sleep we opted for a quieter place.. koh kong the "city" is the place to go to to get to an untouched island and the biggest protected jungle in Cambodia... it is also the dead dog capital of the world... well they weren't dead but they all looked pretty close to it.. and so was the place itself.. this is the sort of thing that happens in most border towns Ive been to.. whatever they border they tend to be ugly smelly and have the most malnourished flea ridden dogs you could hope to see.. but we found our man Mr Neat at the blue moon guest house and deciding to spend as little time as possible in the town we booked the island trip for 8am the ... read more

Well I have guite alot to catch up on. We have been all over the shop and back again. I shall go in chronological order but Im sure some straying shall be done here and there. So Sihanoukville. It took no time at all to get there as we decided to carry on in the style of opulence and splash out the 5$s on a private taxi. Still, it was long enough for the batteries on my new iPod to run out, which I had to buy as my mp3 got robbed (as did my mobile phone, winner). Id like to take a moment to comment on how god awful ipods are and what a ridiculous waste of money they are. incredibly low battery life, almost impossible to put music on and take it off ... read more

We set off on our overnight adventures in the Cardamom Mountains with our guide ‘Frank’ and his mate Al. They run trips into the jungle to see a waterfall. On arranging our trip ‘Frank’ suggest that we go off piste as there were some other tracks that he wants to try so the sense of adventure and the image of the Tarzan show’s of my youth take over and we agree. The days starts early at 6am and we clamber into this old rickety jeep which looks like a good bump on the road and the whole thing will fall apart and take off. We are driving for about 30 mins when we veer off the road and begin on the jungle track. 10 - 15 minutes down the track and we see red signs instructing ... read more

Day 54/55/56/57/58 Phnom Penh & Koh Kong & Bangkok Our first night in Phnom Penh was short since we arrived in the late afternoon. But we did get a tuk tuk up to the lake and ate at the Lazy Gecko where they serve the most amazing chicken strips and fries (and have the cutest pug). S tried to add some more stuff onto her ipod but was sadly disappointed that the Boom Boom room in Phnom Penh couldn't upload MAC ipods. The cafe did have a TV room and we watch "Baby Mama" on their "Sinsung" DVD player (only the crap DVD apparently will play the pirated videos. The next day, Rob met up with this Scottish friend that he met on his tour of Malaysia. The two of them went off to sighesee around ... read more

Getting back to Thailand from Camodia turned out to be yet another mission of strength and patience. We were told we would be on Koh Chang by 2.15 in the afternoon by leaving Cambodia at 7.45am, well we have learnt that never works and you needto add at least 2 hours, this time though, we managed to get there 4.30 hours late at nearly 7pm. 4 buses a ferry then another bus and you make it, a very very long day but from 1st impressions Koh Chang looks great....................You just have to sit back and laugh really which is what we did, it is the travel days of travelling that are the most frustrating, but you can't be negative, the views are always amazing, so thats a plus.......................... read more

The morning after the storm was cool with mist rising from the warming moist earth and at 7 O'clock the river water level was low enough for us to pick our way across. Sophat instinctively seemed to know where the trail was and strode ahead, carrying our belongings while I was only to carry the river filled bottles of water in my small pack. Based on the information from the hunters we were prepared for an 8 hour hike estimating a ridiculously optimistic pace of 5km/hr, with me wearing clogs! My focus was on not twisting an ankle and sparing my knees from further pain by attempting to limit flexing them, a rather impossible feat given the terrain. With eyes cast down most of the time, I decided to wear the helmet for protection and concentrated ... read more
