We had a fabulous 10 days in Westville where we used to live. It started with watching the Westville 15km Christmas run that Andy was going to run - but he changed his mind at the last minute. The rest of our stay was filled with meeting up with friends, family and neighbours, and lots of lunches, suppers and even the theatre. We called in at one of the shopping centres and Andy witnessed the armed guards rushing through the centre as an armed raid was taking place - welcome to South Africa! Also while in Durban I had to make 2 of the 4 bridesmaid dresses, having arranged to borrow a sewing machine. These had been part made in UK and needed fitting and completing. I only had one day as Danelle had flown up ... read more

Hi everyone! Just popped on line quickly to let you know what ive been up to. Well..... Im no longer in Bloem, however before we left we did a few interesting things. We went out for a night on the town and spent most of the night in a funky bar called Mystic Boer, lots of happy fun people, great music and fit guys (Meeko would have loved it!) We also went swimming and played mini golf (I kicked Frans' arse! Hehe!) in the gorgeous sun! Before we left Bloem we managed to fit in the night market. This place was awesome, it was a market at night (as you probably guessed!) and there was lots of cheap African things to buy, most of which were made by the people themselves. Got some prezzies for people ... read more

Having spent the previous night at a B&B in East London - because we couldn't find the campsite - we left early morning to make the trek through the Transkei and up the Kwa-Zulu south coast to Durban. The Transkei looked the same as 20 years ago, potholed roads, lots of goats and cattle on the side of the road, and rather seedy looking towns. Unfortunately our schedule did not allow us time to stay at any of the beautiful beaches so we only saw the worst.... read more

Ok, so, have been lacking a bit on the whole travel blog updating thing so I have 8 glorious weeks to now write about! Right, so I left off at the 5 star lodge-as I said it was so beautiful, and right next to the chimpanzee sanctuary!! They had about 12 chimps there when we visited, including 4 gorgeous babies, most of whom had been rescued from awful conditions as tourist attractions. One was even an addicted smoker and alcoholic. Luckily Bethan and I nabbed ourselves a private tour as we did not receive our wake up call for the group tour. After a lovely lunch we then began out looong journey back to Johannesburg (approx. 8 hours drive). We stayed in J'Burg for a few more days following that, generally just chilling by the pool, ... read more
