I don’t even know where to start…2days after the arrival, and I can’t even put together all the things that has happened so far...Let’s start right at the beginning…
On the plane it turned out the guy, Salah sitting next to Susi is going to work in Addis as
well, with GTZ - a German Organisation, and as there’s a taxi coming to pick him up he offered to join him and share the cab. As it turned out he saved our life that morning as nobody heard about our hostel and when finally we got there nobody answered neither the phone, nor the door, so without a male I think I would have freaked out. But we were OK, had a nice sleep at Martin’s Cozy Place and were ready to explore Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Salah had an appointment with his future workmates, a bunch of German interns who took us sightseeing. The city is pretty diverse as there are many shopping malls and glass office buildings next to the bungalows and dusty roads. The street kids will surely attack you asking for money but the locals seem to ignore them, they give the coins only for those who are really in need. You can see fancy weddings with decorated Mercedeses or cows crossing the main road. The people are amazing!! I must admit Ethiopians are one of the most smiley nations I have ever seen. They will just stop you to talk to you
and to practice their English, they are very curious where you're coming from, what you're doing here, and how you like the city. They seem to be as proud of their capital as Hungarians are of Erős Pista. Mentioning food...OMG...but you can't even say Ohhh My Holy God after tasting Doro Wat, the hottest food that ever touched my mouth...red paprika, chilli and even jalapeno would be ashamed if they would meet their Ethiopian relative,
beber.
You tear a piece of
injera and dip it in this devilis souce and enjoy the explosion in your mouth. Wednesdays and Fridays are fasting days, which means that no other time they serve vegetarian food, except for veggie pizza,
lazagna, spagetti with
tunna or salads that is not really advised to eat everywhere.
Ahh, I'm talking too much about food, I know, but I'm at the breakfast table waiting for my coffe latte and toasts to have some energy to continue exploring the city.
