What can i say about egypt. Absolutely awesome... I loved Luxor. Again the culture of the place has alot to do with why i loved it so much. The way in which the people are so diffrent, transport the things they eat, the houses etc. The temperature was right up their. I couldnt lie beside the pool for even 3mins it was like a river of sweat running of me, and my feel were getting scoulded on the stones. Anyway the forst few days we just relazed in the hilton hotel we were staying at. The 3rd day my brother and I decided to adventure into town in taxi, WHAT A EXPERIENCE THAT WAS !!. Once we had survived the crazy taxi ride and bartered with the taxi driver, we ended up locked in a shop ... read more

We got another early wake up call. This time it was 5am. We crossed The Nile, and got fitted to our donkey's on the other side. The took us to The Valley of the Kings. The donkey ride was by far the best thing I have done whilst being in Egypt. I couldn't get the smile off my face. The Valley of the Kings was really big. Quite hard to walk around I found, as by 9.30am, it was so hot that we had all consumed a large amount of water each. We climbed up the side of a mountain to get a nice view, and met the donkey's at the top. After walking our donkey's along the top of the mountain for a while, we got a nice view of Queen Hatseheptsut's Temple. I wanted ... read more

The night train was pretty good. It was clean, so I was happy. I slept for most of the trip though. In Aswan, the hotel was right next to the bazaar, so it was nice to do a little shopping. In Aswan, we went to the Nubian Museum. I didnt find it too interesting, but then again, I just wanted to go out and see all of the temples. Our taxi driver was late in picking us up too, so it wasn't much fun roasting up in mid summer sun. We visited the Philae Temple. We had to get a little boat out to the island that Philae is on, so it was kind of relaxing. We were the only tourists there for a while (the perks of travelling through the summer).... I loved this temple. ... read more

In the morning we boarded a ferry to take us across the Nile from Luxor to the Valley of the Kings. In the Valley we entered several of the tombs, including King Tut's tomb and the tomb of Rameses VI (d. 1137 BC). I think the tomb that stands out the most now is that of Rameses VI. The decorated walls with multitudes of painted figures depicting Egyptian theology and myths were a fantastic sight. Our guide through the Valley was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about Egyptian archaelology and history and eager to tell the story. At the tomb of Rameses VI, he explained in detail the paintings depicting the Egyptian myth of the day and night. The sky goddess Nut swallows the sun and then gives birth to it the following morning. The painting ... read more

Arriving at Aswan the previous evening, the Misirair turboprop banked over the city giving us a full view. The airport was some distance out beyond the city in the desert, the dark tarmac runway standing out again in a sharp contrast to the bright surrounding terrain. Overnight was at the Kalabsha Hotel downtown. We began our visit to Aswan with an early Thursday morning tour of the High Dam construction site. The Aswan High Dam was then in the final stages of construction, with two years remaining until completion. They would not let us take pictures, so, sorry, no photos of the construction site to post. A civil engineer with us was most upset that there were to be no photos. Construction vehicles and workers were very much in evidence and very busy. I noted the ... read more
