Glad to see you've discovered surfbird. We've followed him for some time now. He and I have passed a few emails back and forth as we have both worked at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. He's been able to get me up to date on what is going on down there. He has not posted in a while because he wintered over. He should be getting off the ice soon and heading to some warm islands.
Reply to this Not that unusual I guess but different. While at the rattlesnake roundup in Sweetwater, Texas I had some fried rattlesnake. It was a bit rubbery but I can't say I would hesitate to eat it again.
The trick is to make sure you get the snake before it gets you ! : )
You have to be careful and wear high boots because while you are trying to catch the one you see there is another behind you that you don't see ! : > 0

Reply to this The worst food I've tried would have to possum (in Australia) - I just couldn't get used to the very very strong odour of the meat. And durian would be the worst smelling food I've ever 'tried' to eat (and failed many times).
The strangest would probably be deep fried crickets in Cambodia or eating honey directly from a beehive in Vietnam - both delicious but quite strange experiences.
It's hard to vote on a best travel meal, but an extended summer afternoon of wine tasting in Spello (Umbria) with matched food would rank in my top five best meals I think...
Reply to this I suppose it was a case of make it snappy! New Orleans is a place I would love to visit so will have to look at that place

I tried durian in Malaysia at the end of last year. It had the same texture and taste of a strong blue cheese. Since I don't like such cheeses, I did not like the durian. They smell terrible.
Reply to this For Sofia, weirdest would be Cuy (Guinea Pig) and she ate all of it!...I only tried a bit as I was pretty repulsed and only ate it in a salad many years back. She would not eat the potatoes because they "Looked Weird
Worst thing we both tried was rotten shark in Barnahofn, Stykkisholmur Iceland. The smell and taste was horrific.
I agree with a poster above, Mapami worms (Northern South Africa near Zim border) were terrible as well. (before Sofia born)
Reply to this I tried jelly fish in Korea... I thought it was glass noodles and only found out later what it really was, like Ren and Andrew said, it tasted like nothing. But also while there, I tried some of the best food ever!
Also fried insects while in Bangkok... not impressed, as I bit into one and it exploded like a cloud of dust in my mouth... never again!
It's funny what people consider weird, because for Dax's grandmother (who is German), it's disgusting to eat Serrano ham, which is very typical in the whole of Spain and Italy and, even worse for her, it's octopus, which is a common food in the area of Spain where I come from.
Reply to this Our worst food was, by far, rotten shark in Iceland. The taste, which was more than horrific, stock in the mouth for hours and even the strongest liquor did not help.
But another really bad thing was a small sausage. The night before climbing Huayna Potosi in the Cordillera Real in Bolivia we stayed in kind of a hut (more or less you can call it a hut). The food was simple: instant noddle soup made of melted snow and 2 small sausages. These sausages were really pink in colour, taste just like grease and were horrible. Thanks we were at a really high altitude and therefore not hungry. But after just 1 bite (and we are really not picky) we descided to just take the noddles out of the soup.
Cuy in Peru and Ecuador was fine for us. And also a lot of yummy llama dishes in Bolivia.
Reply to this Jellyfish and cuttlefish. Both not necessary in my diet in the future.
Reply to this I truly dislike durian. I've tried it twice and didn't finish it either time. Weird texture, dreadful smell, but the absolutely worst part is that your burps taste like durian for the next four hours. Had to drink beer and eat chocolate just to get the taste out of my mouth (really...that was the only reason.)
The only thing I've ever spit out was fish flavored soy paste. Just wrong on so many levels.
Reply to this Horse (2x to make sure I 100% didn't like it lol) Uzbekistan
Reply to this For me trout at Hundrap lake in ghizer valley was the best.
