...sorry it´s taken so long to get this out and published! WEDNESDAY (8-2) There was a little mal-function today at the house. These are times when I really miss my daddy. For some reason I couldn´t get my sink to turn off. The knob was apparently broken on the sink. After playing with it for a while I realized that applying pressure slows the current of the water enough that it´s not going to flood in my bathroom. Well, I couldn´t just stand there all morning pushing the handle down on the sink, so I grabbed two items nearby: a shoe and a box of tampons. Quickly I adjusted the items so that the toe of the shoe was touching the knob and the back to the box. The box was touching the mirror and therefore ... read more

I´m not joking at all when I say we spent Friday and Saturday recooperating. It felt grrreat! We only went out to eat. I´m a person who greatly appreciates food and I was having a hard time dragging myself out the door! You can just imagine how hard it must have been on a normal appeite. SUNDAY (7-30) Sunday we were forced by God´s Will to get up. Nice and early too. Though after chuch all we did was eat our breakfast and come back home. Dorita and I left a little while later to Riocentro. We got tickects to see the second Pirates of the Carribean and within the 45 minute wait, we walked around wasting time. We got to see one of the wanna-be Ecuador-team-player trying to raise some money. He was in this ... read more

Jepp, back in the big city. Arrived to the biggest city of Ecuador late Saturday night. You can really tell that this is a big city from the rythm of life and the stressed out faces of the people here (well... not as in London or Paris - everything is relative, but you get what I mean). The busride that took me here seemed to last forever. With the traditional music at a very loud volume (I am not quite sure, but I think that they played two different songs over and over for a couple of hours - but thank God I did not have to bear with the usual violent/porn movies on the TV that all buses, even the chabbiest ones seem to be equipped with), the dust flying around from the open door, ... read more

Wow! These past few days have truly flown by! It makes me so sad when I realize that every day that I spend here seems like 5 minutes. It´s as if each day flows right in to the next and before you know it, it´s one big day! I guess what I´m trying to say is, we´ve kept busy down South here. Since it has been a while, (and I do sincerely apoligize for that) I´ll try and briefly explain what´s been going on since Thursday of last week. FRIDAY (7-14) Today was very different from any other day, in that I went to work, not as a teacher, but as a doctor! It was so exciting! I worked with Dorita today and we visited two schools, giving out different meds to kids. It was a ... read more

I wanted to send you this one last blog before my trip to the Sierra this week. You won´t be hearing from me for about another week again. Sorry again! As I write this blog, I´m enjoying a nice cup of Gerbers baby food. Mmm-mmm! Well allow me to tell you about my advertures for today. Well, it´s the 23rd day of July and two days until Indepence Day of Guayaquil! Already the streets are filled with baby blue and white colors and everyone is showing their Guayaquileña spirit! The day started like any normal Sunday morning, by us going to church. I can pretty much understand what´s being said, and I´ve gotten down most of the hymns that are sung. I still feel a little akward in a Catholic church, and sometimes feel like everyone´s ... read more

17th-18th July Sunday was chill and major recovery day! awaiting the early bus at 5:30am back to Guayaquil, where i spent the day wandering through the its waterfront promenade known as Macleon 2000. bumped into a random friend in the streets and we wondered through the city, walking up cerro Santa Ana (a hill overlooking the whole city, with colourful houses, bars and restaurants along the path). Even visited its humungous cemetry. spread over a km radium, and sprawling up over a nearby mountain. the graves varied from huge monumental structures, to small boxes in a wall. often families would be burried together. they would mention the day they dies, but not the day they were born...very strange tried to get my videocamera fixed with no avail...boo hoo! and right before i was heading to Galapagos!!! ... read more

Hi all, We´re here in Ecuador (not Guayaquil though, we are in Manta, which wasn´t on the list... but we were in Guayaquil yesterday) and gearing up for a day on the beach. Our updated plan is to lay around today, head to Montecristi, Panama hat capitol of the world, tomorrow, then go north to the equator Wednesday, Colombia the next day and night, and then start bussing back to northern Peru to the beaches for our last week. How sad that summer is already on the way out... though we are looking forward to moving into our new house in Iowa City and starting school (yes we are nerds)!! So, just an update, hope all is well! Love you and miss you!!... read more

Now I´m NOT saying that I was hurt or anything in my crazy title. Just wanted you all to know how extremley worn out I am! These past few days have been pretty calm, though you´ll see why I feel like passing out right now... TUESDAY (7-11) Well what do ya know? Seven eleven...what I weighed when I was born. You can already tell this day is going to be speical. Only I wish that was the case. Though it´s been a month since I haven´t seen my family. And in one more month I will. At the same time I can´t wait to see everyone of you back home, I wish instead you all were coming here instead. I know I have to face reality sometime soon, but for now I´m gonna keep on livin´ ... read more
