Hmm... Crazy crazy crazy. I was a little bit disappointed Wednesday because after the week-end there was nothing going on in town, no festivities (is this what Colombians call a party?!?!). And I was prepared for the biggest week of fiestas ever, before I leave the country! Thursday however started The Big Thing. There were so called Bandos that passed around town. Like big trucks where the beauty queens stand and wave to the people. And, other trucks (more fun and with prettier people) that advertised different alcohols. But, the interesting thing was not the Bandos, but what happened a [View Full Entry]

Maizena, color, water, beer...
Dancin dancin dancin...
...and then finally a refreshing dip...

This week-end was a week-end of joy! My headache was (almost) completely gone and I was feeling better, so good that I could go out in the sun without the light hurting my head and eyes anymore. So, after the relaxing day in Turbaco, my and Mi Hermana Marcela and some friends of her went to see the queens in the old town of Cartagena. Colombia is very focused on beauty (apparently cosmetical surgery is very cheap and very good here - but I do not think I will stay around to find out... ;o) and people talk about the beauty [View Full Entry]

Last week-end I spent in the pleasant company of Marcela's family who was here to visit from Cali. We visited the beautiful city and did all of the tourist things; going to the sea, visiting white beaches with crystal clear water, partying, dancing... Sounds lovely, right? Like a dream! And, for the rest of the week, I have been recovering from what you can see on the picture to the right....... (I am sure my German friends are laughing when they see this, because they always tell me that everything that can happen happens to me... maybe that is true... hahaha. [View Full Entry]

Went to a volcano yesterday that spews forth mud that is supposedly the best thing you can treat your skin to. It was amazingly nice getting pampered by the locals, getting massages etc. After the mud bath they even washed us in the river (and forced us to take off our swim suits!!!) I am too lazy to describe it, but take a look at the pictures, tons of fun! [View Full Entry]

Nice look, huh ;o)

Wow! What can I say?!?! I was thinking that I would wait until I get a more "organized" life until I write about how my life here is... Haha, smart thinking, Annica - of course there is never going to be a routine in a country like this! What is it like here, though? I usually wake up before 6am (by now I think sleeping until 6h30 is to sleep in...), to escape some of the heat (already then it is 30-35 degrees C and around 75% humidity, although lately it has been a little bit cooler, wonder if it is [View Full Entry]

On Friday I went straight from the beach to a field trip in Barranquilla, a city about 45 min from here with car, and two hours from here with bus... And it does not depend on the roads all of the time, they are fine, but it depends on either the limitation (at 60, I can't figure out why!!!) or that the engines in the buses are just so weak that we can't advance any faster!!! Hahaha. And I don't understand what is up with Colombian people and buses, but they always open the windows and since there seems to be [View Full Entry]

Colombian Bus...

Went for three days to a bay close to Barranquilla to wait for the perfect winds for kite surfing - and they came!!! Perfect spot - sleeping in a hammack, kite surfing when winds allow, swimming when not, no stress and just relax. Seriously, I don't know if I ever want to leave from here... (but the farmer's tan is still a fact...) By the way, see the boat in the picture, guess who managed to get the kite tangled up on the masts???!!! :o) [View Full Entry]

Despite my lack of money and VISA cards, I managed to get on the trek to Ciudad Perdida (the Lost City), thanks to a good travelling friend who acted as "sugar daddy", so much that I had to take him as hostage, as you can see in the pics ;o) Actually, about ten years ago this was a place full of guerillas, but it has been cleaned up and now you can every now and then see some militaries patrolling the grounds. The trek to Ciudad Perdida goes over five days in a tremendous landscape of some kind of jungle up [View Full Entry]

Oh no, I am such an airhead :o( I lost my wallet in the taxi y-day and suddenly I have no money and no cards... (yeah, lost both cards because none of them was working lately, so I wanted to test both....) And I didn't even get robbed, just my airhead that dropped it in the dark... Can you beleive it takes at least a week to get a new card?!?! Mama mia!!! [View Full Entry]

This is a completely unique experience that not many "tourists" get to live. I am very grateful for this opportunity to really make a difference. Our schedule for my first day was starting early, as always, to avoid some heat. Even though I walked as slow as I could, I was still completely sweaty when arriving at the harbour where we were going to take the boat to the island where we are going to work. Of course the Colombians, Edel the teacher och co volunteer, Angela a friend and Juana another friend, were late, I should have known better... :o) [View Full Entry]
