10th February- 13th February Parque Nacional Da Chapada Dimantina near the mining town of Lencois. said to be the most beautiful national park in Brazil...and for me, a definite stop in Brazil! An overnight night bus trip (6-7hours) from Salvador, and we booked ourselves into the ever friendly hostel- Pousada Daime Sono. The staff are nice and very accomodating. the first day we toured the nearby regions driving by van through the winding roads, with some of the best mix of classic songs that ive ever heard! chilling back with the 2 dutchies and 2 French girls that joined us. beautiful landscapes, wide gorges and stunning mountains. We swam in waterfalls and were exhausted by the end of the day...all rested up for the upcoming 3 days of hiking ahead!!!!! Marco and I joined 2 awesome ... read more
6th February- 8th february Leaving Lucila was so hard. Her and her friends were headed back to Sao Paolo to fly back home, and the Dutchies and needed to make our way north to get to carnival! In all the excitement of the last few hours in Buzios, we tried taking a photo that resulted in Yvanka and marco falling through the glass coffee table, escaping with a few grazes. The landlady furious when she discovered it. We should have hidden the evidence a little better. But careful scheming, we all left to the bus stop leaving Marco behind to pay for the damages, given that he was "to stay a few extra days". of course, half hour later, he comes running to the bus stop with his bag, having ran away from the landlady. we ... read more
16th January - 23rd January Arriving in Rio was like a long drawn out dream finally coming true. it had played in my mind so many times. it was amazing that i had finally set foot in this wonderous city. Rio De janeiro definitely did not let me down. The capital of Samba, the birthplace of the hypnotic Bossa Nova, beautiful beaches full of hot tanned bodies. Christ the redeemer, sugarloaf mountain, the list is endless.... I checked myself into Mellow Yellow hostel in Copacabana. Very few hostels in South America hold the reputation of such hostels. like Milhouse in BA and Loki in Cuzco, this was definitely a big party hostel. Rooms are admittedly crammed to the max. but they had an awesome rooftop bar with mountain views from your bar stool. so having arrived ... read more
9th January- 12th January If you ever doubted there was a god, then you just need to come to just feel the force of creation that thunders from the waterfalls of Iguazu. one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, this place was nothing short of breathtaking! I stayed at one of the best Hostels i had stayed in South America. Called Hostel Inn Iguazu, this was a huge resort type acomodation, with big pool, and pool side bar! nothing like drinking Caipirinhas whilst laying back and chilling in the pool! Iguazu Falls borders the Argentinian and Brazilian Borders. whilst the Brazilian border offer the wide open landscape shots, Argentina offered the close up and intimate, but deafening experience! Brazilian side joined a tour group, we went cycling through the forrest, canoeig along the river ... read more
3rd January- 8th January PARTY PARTY PARTY! if you came to Punta del este, then you are either a rich spoilt argetinian/brazilian/uruguyan with too much money...or you are a backpacker in search for a PARTY!!! this place has parties going on 7 days a week. i thought the parties start late in BA, but this place no one shows up before 3am. so u can understand, i spent many of my days sleeping my hangovers away!! Stayed in a cool hostel called Hostel 1949. however, it was the most expensive hostel ive paid for in south america, and strangely also one of the worst!!! we had 9 people cramped into the space of what should fit no more than 6 people uncomfortably! Walking through the main district was like something u would see in Beverly Hills ... read more
2nd january- 3rd January Colonia is a little gem...filled with colonial buildings and cute little things...kind of makes u sick after a while really as to how cute it was. we met some cool people there and had way too many drinks! all in the one night we were there! walked around the old town, admiring the colonial architecture. but admittedly, one day was more than enough. Its not as memorable as people make it out to be! but worth a quick stop if you are in the area! also lacking beaches....which was just as well we were heading to Punta del este ... read more
28th December- 2nd January I LOVE BA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! coming back to one of my favourite cities in the world gave me goosebumps!!! this was the 3rd time i come to BA in this trip!!! and there was no better place to party for NEW YEARS!!!! Elliot, Ober and I checked into my favourite hostel in south America- Milhouse Hostel- party central. having survived the alcohol intoxication and party fatigue inducing lifestyle, i became an addict! Even the staff remembered me!!! one of them even started singing in spanish to me about an uncle called mario who is a veterinarian! mi tio mario es un veterinario ... i showed my friends the touristy things again. La bocca and the tango show. we ate steak every night with Malbec wine (why oh why do we not have this grape ... read more
27th December Definitely the most laid back capital that i had encountered in South America. checked into ALbergue Juvenil in the morning to catch up with Elliot and Obere. and after a few hours of sightseeing, i was ready to leave that evening. Admittedly, i didnt give Montovideo much of a chance. it was nice to see, but not much to do. though the weekends are meant to be more happening. and walking around the streets, Uruguay definitely was blessed with some of the more beautiful women in South America!... read more
18th december - 26th December Florionapolis and ilha de Santa Catarina had been whispered on every traveler´s route. arriving at the airport, we were greeted by a black african guy with dreads who set us up in an appartment for us 5 boys to reak havoc. the appartment was left as though it had been bulldozed by mammoth pigs on steroids. and we never mentioned the broken window that one of us used to break into the appartment whilst the other 4 were passed out somewhere else on the island! so the boy band: Elliot- Canadian, never short of something to say (inevitably in reference to the now revered movie BORAT). unable to fathom how one person can get so burnt and peel after 2 hours in the sun! he was constantly peeling his skin off ... read more
13th december - 17th December and again 12th January - 16th January Sao Paolo...this is a city within a city! almost 20million people now live within greater Sao Paolo. and most people you speak to dont even come from Sao Paolo. and although most people you speak to say that they disliked Sao Paolo, people who live there cant imagine living anywhere else! and i think im one of the lucky travelers that can say that he loved Sao Paolo. thanks to my very great friends Juliana and Amanda, i experienced a unique side of Sao Paolo. i had initially met the girls in the north of Brazil, and invited me to join them in Sao Paolo. My first visit was brief and i stayed in the Praca Do Avore hostel, located in the middle of ... read more
