Dank einer tollen Chefin hatte ich im Mai 2 Tage frei und konnte somit ein langes Wochenende in Salvador, Bahia verbrigen. Mittwoch abends ging der Flug (Ich wohne 5 min mit dem Bus vom Flughafen enfernt!) und nur 2 Stunden später landete ich schon in der wohl afrikanischsten Stadt Brasiliens. Dort holte mich eine Freundin ab und mit dem Bus gings dann in die 5er WG (3 Spanier, eine Guadeloupanerin (???) und eben eine Deutsche). Bis Sonntag Abend hatte ich Zeit diese tolle Stadt kennenzulernen, die eine ganz andere Atmosphäre hat als Fortaleza oder Recife. Die afrikanischen Sklaven kamen dort zuerst an und somit hat sich die afrikanische Kultur in Salvador viel stärker gehalten. Ich versuche mal an dieser Stelle die Monate Januar bis Mai kurz zusammenzufassen. ;) Natürlich mit dem guten Vorsatz ab jetzt wieder regelmäßiger zu bloggen… Im Januar war Mama also für drei Wochen in Fortaleza, Ceará. Sie fand es heiß. Ziemlich heiß sogar glaube ich. Wir sind dann per Leihwagen ein bisschen an der südlichen Küste entlanggefahren, haben an den schönen Stränden halt gemacht und Sommer, Sonne, Strand genossen. Canoa Quebrada, Morro Branco und all die kleinen unentdeckten paradiesischen Strände dazwischen sind definitiv die highlights in Ceará! Als einzige Gäste in der Pousada in einem mini Fischerörtchen, keine 2 Schritte aus der Zimmertür bis zum Strand - so lässt’s sich leben finde ich. Als Kontrastprogramm sind wir danach auf abenteuerlustigen Straßen mit mehr Löchern als Asphalt ins Inland in Richtung des Nationalparks „Ubajara“ gefahren. Dort sind ... read more

So I arrived in Recife, late around midnight. I was a little concerned only because I wasn’t sure if my couchsurfer confirmed that it was ok to stay with him and I didn’t have a phone card to call him. Luckily I had made friends with a lovely lady, Cida, that had sat on the plane next to me. She lived or rather worked in Manaus, living there 3 weeks out of the month and visiting her son and husband in Recife one week out of the month. I told her about coushsurfing as she had never heard of it, and about my dilemma of not knowing weather my host was coming to the airport or what. I am so excited about this trip. I can't wait to go back to my country. It is hard to explain... I love America, but there is nothing like being around your own people, that speaks your language and where you feel one of them. I just wish Brandon was coming with us. It will not be the same without him. But I know I'll have a good time and I just can't wait to show all my favorite places to Tomas. Even that I know that he is too young to really care. Now I just hope our passports get here in time... a little bit more than a month and I'll be back to Brazil!!!!!!!!!!! ... read more
