I was looking through my posts and realized I never posted a report on my trip to Ecuador in March. So here are the details: I was able to visit some cities and areas of the country that I had never visited before; like Coca, Loja, and the Mindo area. So it is no coincidence that this month's newsletter will include a full report of my trip. In a nutshell, it was amazing!! Ecuador never fails to impress me and I seem to enjoy it more each time I visit. And with such a short flights from most major gateways (4-6.5 hours) it is a very attractive spot for a true Latin American experience. Quito: Ecuador's capital city served as our "home base" during our trip. The combination of the "old town" and "downtown" gives you ... read more

I just returned from 9-days in Recife, Olinda, Porto de Galinhas, and Fortaleza. Overall, it was amazing. I actually lived in Northern Brazil as a "younger" man and I was thoroughly impressed with the improvements that have been made since I was there. Recife and Olinda were very clean, safe, and the quality of hotels, food, and activities has increased. If you are not yet familiar with this part of Brazil, there is no better time than the present. Gone are the days of flying all the way to Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, only to turn around and head north. There are now direct flights from major gateways to Recife, Salvador, and Fortaleza. Because of these flights the local governments are getting a lot of pressure to improve infrastructure in these cities. And the ... read more

Hello Everyone. I just returned from a lovely week in Ushuaia, Argentina. To begin, I have to admit that I was very impressed with the city. It was completely different than the image I had in my mind (16-hours of flying gave me plenty of time to think). Granted, I was there during the peak summer season and was very lucky with weather but the place is absolutely beautiful. Ushuaia is a picturesque city of 65,000 that sits on the shores of the Beagle Channel surrounded by snow capped mountains and beautiful green valleys. I did the "regular" tours; Tierra del Fuego National Park, Beagle Channel, Harberton Ranch, and The Train to the End of the World. But I also used my free time to visit many musuems (and I am not a museum guy) and ... read more

Hello Again, It seems that I am about a month late on all of these entries. Between work and travel I haven't had time to get this post up. I was in Peru again in October and had the chance to get up to the North for the first time. I went to Chiclayo, Trujillo, and then I dd the standard Cuzco and Machu Picchu visit. Chiclayo felt like it was about 5-years behind in regards to general touristic infrastructure but the locals are so nice. I stayed at the Gran Hotel Chiclayo and it was fine. Clean and comfortable with no frills. I heard Casa Andina is building up there which will be a very nice addition to the area but it will probably be a while before it is completed. We went to the ... read more

Hello Everyone, I finally got back into the grove of work and life after my trip to Ecuador. I spent time in Quito, The Galapagos, and Otavalo. It was simply an amazing trip. Ecuador is a beautiful country with so much variety. One could spend weeks there and be in a new city every 3 or 4 days. Galapagos was something that I will never forget. If you ever get the chance to go DO NOT pass it up. It is not necessarily inexpensive but it is definetely worth it. I was on a 4N/5D cruise aboard the Coral I. It is a smaller boat that sleeps 34 or 36 but we only had 24 on the boat. The guides were excellent, the food and crew were great, and the excursions were amazing. I enjoyed the ... read more
