It's here....well just about.... 48 hours from now and we will be just touching down in Buenos Aires. I have a plethora of etickets and travel vouchers to organize before we go. After triple checking, everything is in place and confirmed.... I'm such a stickler for details... Packing is a nightmare; it will be scorching hot, freezing cold, wet, dry and everything in between. To make things more difficult, Aerolineas Argentinas has the strictest weight restrictions this side of Fat Fighters. I can see frequent visits to the local lavandería automática on the horizon. I can't say I'm looking forward to the flight. At 6'4'' I don't sit happily in economy; Business Class is much more civilized. Could be time for some creative manoeuvring...where's my walking stick and neck brace?? How often this 'Blog is updated ... read more

Thought we would collapse upon arriving at hotel in San Telmo, but we got our second wind seeing the city again. We started walking, showing Karma around. Took it easy that night though. Next day was Sunday and we did the San Telmo antique fair and then had an outing to go to the Boca-San Lorenzo Futbol (soccer) game. What an experience! Later, we sought out the city hostel where Laura and Haley were staying, found Haley and had a drink with her, then whisked Karma off to the gay club, Amerika. Good dancing. Next day we dragged Karma shopping on Santa Fe, then to see Brokeback Mountain. He was all gayed out by then. That night they dragged me to the hostel again to meet L&H… I didn't get my second wind this time until ... read more

I arrived at my home for the next 3 months on an overnight bus from Buenos Aires. The journey was 9 hours, I think I slept for a couple of them. A long journey, after a rather long day... ... after my previous entry I spent the Wednesday morning as planned with my room mate Luisa wandering the streets of BA, around the old quarter. We went to the area known as 'La Boca', where the Tango is particularly supposed to have originated, on the docks. Now it is a tourist area, painted wodden buildings with tin roofs painted in the most amazing lurid colours, the roof green, one wall blue, the shutters yellow, and the windows red. There are people dancing the Tango on every other corner, trying to attract a few pesos, and the ... read more

Hola Back in BA and on dry land... thankfully!! A chance to come back and see the things we didnt the first time. And party some more with the locals. A football match We saw Boca Juniors play San Lorenzo, and boy it was amazing! Saw the passion of the fans, it was unbelievable. La Boca We went to the colourful streets in La Boca and bought some artwork and tangoed in the streets (those lessons coming in useful!!). Its such a lovely place. It has been amazing. I have loved Argentina the whole time and it is so sad to leave. There have been so many highlights to name them all....but I will miss many many things. We have booked tckets to see U2 in Santiago to make sure we leave!!! ... read more

Well I arrived back in BA very late on Monday evening, to the sweltering heat of the city. After the wind blown steppes of Patagonia, the still air and humid heat is almost oppressive, making movement rather on the uncomfortable side. Yesterday was spent saying my good byes to the rest of the group and Graciella (scarey, now on my own in the big city) trying to sort out a bed for the night, (succesful), book a bus to get the ranch (a double decker sleeper bus - wish me luck with that one!), get a new SIM card so I can recieve calls without costing the earth (not sure if it's actually working yet, no-one has actually been able to call me yet!), putting digital photos onto CD to send home (took ages) and replying ... read more

Hay bastante lluvia y relampagos. Its sticky and sweet. The type of rain I have never really experienced. I have to admit Im romanticising it a bit. The heat... its hot. The hot is why I decided to move here and whenever I start to hate the hot I remind myself of the decision I made. So far my impression of Argentina is the niceness of the people and the malls. At the end of my day in Argentina I can say I have been to two malls. And no, I have not bought anything. Clothing is more expensive than I thought. While food is much less. Imagin $4 american for a huge meal including a bebida of your choice and a postre. Thats nothing to laugh at. The strangest part of the day was going ... read more

Hello! This one is for all you doubters out there who thought we´d never make it...all safe and well here in hot & sweaty Buenos Aires. The BA flight was quite long, not aided by the slobbering character sleeping beside me on the plane (no, not Laura) and the 25 Argentinian teenagers returning from their degree course in the Finsbury Park School of Applied English (cash only, terms & conditions apply). Got here without any hassle and safely checked in to the lovely Garden House Hostel in the San Telmo district of the city. Great place - not too many people staying, so no late night rowdy mobs to disturb my beauty sleep...kind of geared towards the travelling community in a nice kind of way. My only gripe is the lack of aircon (that we´ve been ... read more

So if you're confused by my Virgin Episode, it's because I did my first entry and put some pictures up, but then decided to transfer all my old Sent emails to this website so that I can have a record of my travels. This week has been pretty non-eventful. One, it's because there just aren't as many people at the school who are wanting to do stuff. Second, because I have been spending lots of my budget and I'm not even halfway through my trip. You don't want me to be calling you at your homes and asking for a wire transfer in exchange for reading my intriguing emails, do you? Sunday night we went out for Mexican food. It was okay Mexican food, they did offer us a taster margarita in a shot glass that ... read more

This travel blog website is a really great idea! Let's try it out for a while, shall we? Today is supposedly the downfall of the sweltering hot weather. I'm wearing jeans and I even brought my umbrella. I've been walking to school both ways lately, so I don't want to look like a wet cat when I get to school. I've been really doing my homework and checking out lots of different gyms. I tried one out yesterday, but the gosh darn heat was too too much. I did the bike for 15 minutes and then took a pilates class. She went completely too fast to really work on the body and she was counting soo fast, uno dos tres cuatro cuatro tres dos uno. I understood pretty much all of her instructions, and if not ... read more
