We´ve finally got out of Brazil safely and arrived in Bueno Aires (BA) in a luxurious business class coach. The seat allows u to recline to almost horizontal and they provide water and coffee at all times. Dinner is inclusive and is served in pretty classy restaurant, the kind with waiters dressed in shirt and vest. We had a 3 course meal with free flow of soft drinks, beer, wine and champagne! After dinner, the bus captain (or shld I say the bus steward) served sweets and liquor. We were joking that maybe breakfast will be served in the morning, and the next thing when we woke up, the bus captain came with trays of snacks and coffee. Cool huh? Oh yes, we must also thank the 2 kind souls from the States whom we met ... read more

My god, I want you to all know what I am doing for you. Pictures take so long to upload. I have spent the hour just uploading the ones on the three new entries I have just posted. Well, lets get down to business shall we? I have to confess, this writting an online journal is a little tough. Of course I am not inspired to write on a computer. I am especially uninspired to write at a computer in an internet cafe. Its hot in there and you are surrounded by a bunch of raging hormonal boys playing video games. Instead of writting at the internet cafe I write in my room, parks, cafes, and anywhere I am inspired to do so. Yesterday I was inspired to write in a food court waiting for the ... read more

So here I sit. In BA pissed off at my freakin bank and the moron that I call a personal banker for not telling me to call the folks at security for my VISA. Jesus H. Christ, when I asked her before I left if there was anything that I needed to do before leaving for South America so that my card will work, she said, No it will be fine. BAH!!!!! So now I really need to just say that I will be pulling my money out of First Horizon as soon as I get back to The States. Anyone else know a good bank? Yeah, sure you are sitting there reading this blog hoping that it will take you to far off lands and adventures but now I am just ranting about my bank. ... read more

Went to explore more of Bueno Aires today. Visited a cathedral, some parks and some plazas with statues of generals or pioneer of something. The most exciting part was that we saw many police officers, camera crew and reporters along a street as they wait for a protest against some legislation that was just passed down (I guess). BA gives me a very European feeling with their european style architecture, statues and sidewalk cafes. Bump into a shopping street. Goodness! The things here are so cheap (eg, we each bought a set of bikini that costs S$4.50 haha) But but but.... I can´t shop anymore cos I can´t stuff more things into my bag. So irritating when I see something that I like but yet I can´t buy. Now wondering if I shld change my return ... read more

I am sitting in an ultra fancy food court in an ultra fancy movie theater in an ultra fancy neighborhood, Recoleta. Perhaps you remember me mentioning that in my barrio there are very few trees. I think they took all of the trees alloted to my neighborhood and squeezed them into Recoleta thinking maybe no one would notice....well someone did notice. Not only did she notice that they have a massive amount of trees but she also noticed that the absurdity of the amount of trees was enhanced when someone planted little shrubs around the base of the trees......THAT IS DOUBLING THE TREE COUNT! I will not complain The sun is beating down on this day, the second day of fall....it is determined to turn me into a scrambled lizzz. Yeah, get this fall comes earlier ... read more

If this thing has worked properly then everyone should have got an email alert that the site has been updated. If you´re looking at this and you know me but, didn´t get an alert mail, send me a mail at i.carmichael@ekit.com and I´ll add you to the list for future updates. Had a slightly more interesting week this week. I signed up for one more week at school. I´m learnng lots, speaking little more and probably understanding a bit more of the spoken word too- all good. I have spent hours trapesing around book shops trying to find The Lonely Planet´s guide book to South America to help me through my travels over the next few months on this continent. When I finally found a copy (the Holy Grail as it is now known) they wanted ... read more

Several hours ago, when I was uploading my pictures from Chile, I started to worry about the time. It was about 8:00, and I was supposed to go out with an Argentine girl I worked with, Noelia, and her friends. Shortly after, Noelia sent me an IM on the new gmail chat, asking what time I wanted to meet up. I said it was up to her, so she said, "Ok, how about after dinner, like at about 1 or so." Such is life here in Buenos Aires. Rewind: I arrived about midday on Thursday the 2nd in Buenos Aires. Originally, I was supposed to stay with the family of a friend from Michigan. His grandma got sick and that didn't work out. On top of that, my boss Victor, and his family, were going to ... read more

Haha, I mean I love U2!!! I've got morning classes now, which are going great, but sometimes I get a little sleepy in the afternoons. So I nap. And I napped on Wednesday until about 5pm. I'm in the bathroom, washing my face, putting my eyes back in, etc., and the doorbell keeps buzzing. I keep doing what I'm doing cuz I'm thinking to myself that noone really knows exactly where I live so it's obviously not for me, and I didn't want to be bothered. So finally the buzzer stops. A couple minutes later, someone knocks on the door. I'm thinking, this persistant little bugger! And also you need a key to get into the building and I'm wondering who let them in. I look out in the peephole and it's the building manager. He ... read more

After fleeing the freezing temperatures of London my arrival into Buenos Aires was a bit of a shock. Still wrapped in my winter layers I stepped out the plane into 35 degree heat. I was roasting!! Needless to say I stripped off real quick. Obviously not everything, people normally pay me to do that sort of stuff... Normally I'm quite good with directions, but my sense of direction seemed to abandon me. I had real shocker and spent a ludicrous amount of time trying to find the Antiques Market in San Telmo. The sad thing was that I had a map and it wasn't even very far from my hostel. It was all rather pathetic. In my defence, there is a distinct lack of street signs in this city. The antiques market in San Telmo is ... read more

Arrived in Buenos Aires after a cold weather stint in Central Europe. It was mid January, so that means its summer in BsAs. Needless to say, big fans of the temperature, and soon afterwards EVERYTHING else in Argentina. After almost 2 months spent in & out of both airports and the ferry terminal in BsAs - as well as several friendly vists form Chi town crew & parents - we then departed, but have long since wished to return.... read more
