For those who are going to Auckland, never miss this place, the Museum. It’s located in Parnell, a town beside Auckland town center. You can go there by The Link bus, which is a green bus that you pay $1.60 and you can hop off at any stop (of course just for once). I like this bus line coz the route is quite simple. Beside friendly bus drivers (that I met), there’s a plasma TV in the bus with GPS showing where the bus heading, and the information about the places, weather report, and the thing I like most, movie preview. Please inform the bus driver if you are going to the Museum as it’s not by the main road. The driver will tell you this is the stop for Museum and please ask them the ... read more

Here we start working. Housekeeping. It’s a simple job but it’s not easy. First-comer has to pair up with senior housekeeper. We learned how to wash the bathroom on the first 2 days. Yucky… Then how to make up the bed, clean the kitchen…the hardest part is we have to complete everything in a room in half an hour on your own after one week. I thought accommodation and meal would be provided, we were so wrong, it’s all on our own. My God… Staying YHA for the long-term was burning a hole in our pocket. We moved to a cheaper place which is located in Anzac Avenue. So-called “student hostel”, but didn’t see student much, most were travelers. It’s cheap, $80 per person per week. But the conditions were so so bad. A room without ... read more

Hi all from New Zealand! Somehow we have managed to make it here after 4 months travelling and we are already in love with it. We've been here about 2 weeks but we have had a little hold up so we're back in Auckland. The reason is that we had a little car accident last Saturday so have come back to pick up a new rental car. We were driving along a very small narrow, windy road in the pouring rain and lost control of the car and went head on into the side of the cliff. We have so much to be thankful for though as we are fine apart from being bruised and shaken and no-one else was involved. Lots of people stopped and helped us move the car and drive us to get ... read more

EMBARKATION DAY 3/1 The Link bus system circles Auckland for $1.60NZ. I got an early start and caught the bus a couple of blocks from the hotel. The route circles the city and I got a flavor of the neighborhoods and locals. First, there are these used bookshops all over town. It says something about a culture that cares so much about reading. Then there’s the art galleries and art schools, almost one on every corner, even the illustrious Texan School of Art has a branch here. Most folks thanked the driver when they got off. Very nice! Rode the circuit until I reached the Auckland Museum. An impressive building houses three major collections. Level three houses the war collection (the full name is the Auckland War Memorial Museum), armaments and artifacts from New Zealand’s wartime ... read more

I arrived in Auckland on the 3rd February. I left Bangkok at 17.25 on the 2nd February and arrived 9 hours later at 6:25am in Sydney to change planes. It's reasonable to say I didn't sleep much and by the time I arrived in Auckland I was seriously battered! After the painfully slow baggage checks (New Zealand has one of the strictest airports in the world!), I finally got through to the exit of the airport. Something to eat was required and all I could see was a dirty Ronald McFonald's. I reluctantly ordered a McChicken Sandwich meal and got half way through the burger before I realised why I had stopped eating such shit - consequently throwing it in the bin! So I got a shuttle to my hostel and settled in fairly well in ... read more

This will probably be my signoff for 2008. I did a few different Christmas Parties today, two of which I have photos to share. First I went to the Rob and Bromwen's place for lunch and watched a bunch of kids go crazy over one of their first memorable christmases. The Fleming...s have become my extended family and will always be a special part of my life and I hope that it's the same for them. Great lunch and witnessed a traditional christmas meals. We forgot the christmas pudding at home and had to rush back... it's a green light go go go.... After an exhausting morning we came home to open presents. Great mess of wrapping paper all over the floor. From there went on to a music, card/drinking game party, drinks with vodka and gin ... read more

Auckland during Christmas is officially dead. My friends have gone back to the states for the holiday period or gone to their family batches (beach homes) I'll be in Auckland for a good part of the holiday period just taking it easy. We prepared the Christmas ham and turkey today. With this being the summer period I BBQ for everyone, yummy burgers and NZ hot dogs (sausage). Graham and George brought over Playstation's Singstar video game and we belted out the classics until the wee hours of Tuesday morning... surprisingly the neighbours have yet to call noies patrol on us. I need to go to bed as it is 1:40 in the morning....just as soon as the Viking/Redskin football game on ESPN is completed. Happy Holidays to Everyone...I wish I could be there to celebrate with ... read more

Halloween 2007. While Stephanie was away we used the house to throw an epic ghoul party. The party brought to an end many things, but that's only for refrence purpose. My ricky bobby costume was a year old but never worn.... out of date entertainment items don't work well for costumes. The scotts showed up in the same costume from last year... see 2006 photos. Overall a party to remember.... read more

I'm only making this entry because I heard the funniest thing on the equivalent of your 10pm news. New Zealand news tries hard enough to make itself purposeful, let’s be honest there is just so little news worthy events they’ll do almost anything to fill in 30minutes. Well tonight they hit new low (high) of pointlessness. Picture this: New Zealand anchorwoman, the camera cuts away to a news story decidedly American (American accented male commentator, hick’ish group of guy’s staring up a pine tree at a bear they just tranquilized, debating how to get the bear down. Next scene, said hicks stacking up empty boxes from an alcohol store at the base of the tree, all of a sudden you hear a limb crack, hicks look up and then scatter as the bear cartwheels vertically down ... read more
