The thought of 3 Months holiday straight, sounded just too stressful for us :-). So off to Rarotonga with the family for 8 days of Rest and Relaxation to prepare psychologically for the big event. We stayed at the Sunset Resort (which is worth a trip if you get to Rarotonga) and got upgraded to beach front units! The resort is brand new after being rebuilt after the Hurricane. One of the first things we did was go to the Ministry of Transport to get our licence. The sign says it all. The days were spent enjoying the sun, swimming (mel spent a lot of time either in the pool or on the side with her book), and snorkeling (take bread with you'll love how the fish swarm arround you). The evenings had amazing sunsets as ... read more

A marvellous holiday with the kids and partners before they head off overseas. Highlight was Tim proposing and being accepted. Rarotonga is a great holiday destination, clean, good food, accommodation at all price levels and sandy beaches to die for, plus pretty good snorkelling off the beach. Have marine reserves with some large fish in addition to all the beautiful reef fish. No nemos. The coloured coral is coming back after the cyclones of 2006. Stayed at the Sunset Resort on the beach front. Lived up to its name. To have a proposal on the sand - bended knee and all, with a huge sunset - what a lifetime memory. The girls looked fantastic on our last night. After the kids came back to Nz we went on to Aitutaki - a bit windy which made ... read more

Right I thought I should write a bit about our experiences in Atiu because it’s such a special little place. Atiu is in the Cook Islands, a short flight from Raratonga and although it’s the third biggest island in the Cooks, it has only about 500 people (and declining) living there in a collection of 4 or 5 villages at it’s centre. We caught the weekly flight from Aitutaki in this tiny airplane which held ten passengers, the pilot doubled up as the air stewardess, and we had a fantastic view of the cockpit. Bouncing our way through the air with the vast Pacific Ocean below us we landed at the airport and were greeted by a large group of smiles. We had nowhere booked to stay because of telephone problems, however after a bit of ... read more

Hello boys and girls heres a little story about the time Tom and Liz went to the Cook Islands. The Cook Islands are a group of 15 islands in the middle of the Pacific, 241 sq km of land to be exact over 2'000,000 sq km of water which is pretty impressive. The Cooks are internally self governing but have very strong links to New Zealand (use NZ money, speak English - as well as Maori) since they became a British protectorate in 1888 as they did not want to become a French colony, (ok quoting from Lonely Planet now but it is interesting no?) which think explains lots of the differences between Tahiti and the Cooks as the French/British/New Zealand influances have created quite noticable cultural differences between the two contries considering that the Cooks ... read more

Hey guys, just a quick message before I leave the Cook Islands tonight and head to Fiji. Ive spent the last week living with three girls, Steph, Holly and Chrissy, and a guy called Ste, we managed to find a cool house for only NZ$15 a night, which is nothing, its right near one of the best beaches, as soon as I get to NewZealand and they have some kind of Broadband I'll put a few pictures up here for you guys. Last Saturday we got motorbikes out, and went round the Island, stopped off at a few beaches and ate crazy Island Fries which are like purple and green chips, which are pretty cool. Then on Sunday I had great fun coming flying off the motorbike on a wet corner and sliding straight across ... read more

After Fiji we went to the Cook Islands. We had to cross the International Date Line to get here so we experienced Saturday 4th February twice! We are staying on Rarotonga which is the largest of the islands although it is still pretty small with a circumference of only 32km. It has great beaches and snorkelling; Laura has seen lots of cool fish. Luckily the weather has been nice. This time last year it got hit by three hurricanes so we can't complain! ... read more

What a busy few days we have had in our tropical paradise. We have been busy snorkelling, kayaking and cycling. The snorkelling is excellent and we have been nearly every day. There are so many fish and they are really colourful. Our favourite is the Picasso triggerfish which really looks like Picasso painted it. As well as the fish there are hundreds if not thousands of sea cucumbers as well as the occasional massive blue starfish. All very groovy. We hired bikes on Monday and went for a cycle around the Southern and southwesterly part of the Island. We decided against going all the way round as we did not think we would make it! The cycle was great though and we passed some lovely beaches. We visited a couple of CICC churches en route. Rarotonga ... read more

We have gone back in time! We are now in the Cook Islands and we are experiencing our second Saturday 4th January. We crossed the International Date Line so we got an extra day. I have always wanted to do that! The Cook Islands are lovely. We are staying in Muri Beach on Rarotonga. It is a natural lagoon. The beach is about 20 seconds from where we are staying. The sea is warm, clear and very shallow. There is lots of reef and fish just off shore so we should be able to go snorkelling. The place we are staying has free kayaks so we have taken advantage of that and gone for a paddle. There are several small islands off shore so we kayaked around one of them. The water was so clear we ... read more

The cook islands are the best place I have ever been, its like walking around in a Malibu advert, even tho that was somewhere else. The island is 32Km around, and we rode bikes around the whole thing the other day, stopping off to swim in the sea every now and again. Ive been bitten about 2 million times by little mozzie bastards, and i have a sun burnt hand. I met up with a bunch of people on the plane, a guy called Matt, a guy called Steve who for some reason will only answer to "Ste", and three girls, Holly, Steph and Chrissy. They are all pretty cool, all English, and I've extended the cook Islands bit to 2 weeks now, and we're all gonna rent a beach house next week. The other ... read more
