Has anybody worked somewhere in any of the Pacific islands? If so, what? Is it difficult to find sth to earn the money?

Are rental cars allowed on the Picton to Wellington ferries? by Home and Away I was told by a travel agent that rental car companies in New Zealand do not allow their cars on the ferries between the north and south islands.
