For anyone that doesn't know, Raratonga is the main island of a group of Islands called the Cook Islands, 4 hours to the East of Fiji. A beatiful little island with only 18,000 inhabitants and you can cycle round in a couple of hours. I arrived at the airport drunk from my flight, something about free booze that makes me wanna keep going and going, not knowing where on earth I was heading. Got myself to a really nice little hostel actually, right on the beach, clean rooms etc for about 9 pounds a night. I'm even on the best bay on the island, will attach some photos when I can find the USB port. First day was pretty cold so I just kinda chilled chatting to people which was nice! Hostels are fine but when ... read more

Hello everyone, After a short flight from Tahiti we arrived on the main island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. For our first 2 nights we stayed in our own beachouse which was brilliant - only about 20 ft from the lagoon with a hammock, verandah and lots of pet lizards!! The Cooks were governed by New Zealand and so we met a lot of Kiwis who were really friendly and gave us loads of travel advice about NZ. We have even got some people's addresses including a big, sweaty glamour photographer - not sure whether that was directed to me or Rich!! On our second night here, we went to an island night which included a traditional feast and island dancing. We both sank in our chairs and tried to hide as they rounded up ... read more

It was my Uncle Dick's Second trip to the airport in 3 days as I was a no show for my scheduled flight. Dick proceeded to show around me around the island of Roatonga. We checked out the historical buildings and then cruised over to his friend’s house where they have a steam train that they had imported and restored and laid track for. Big boy toys. My uncle is pretty handy and spent most his days working on projects of his own and often other peoples. Outside the work shop there is always things to do often in the Orchard where all kinds of fruit and vegies grow, along with chooks and pigs. He has made a number of impressive boats including glass bottom boat and a light weight trimaran as well as a number ... read more

Hello everyone! well well well...i know that your all having heaps of fun in SYdney with all that great weather and what not...(BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....NOT) just kidding well the weather here is approximately 28degrees (and it's only 5 past nine in the morning!) and it's only going to be fine and sunny again today! which means good weather for painting swimming and riding our bicycles! which we purchased for a measly $135.00 NZ and their virtually brand new....only a year old! so now we're able to get round the island in no time! we're hoping to put up some pictures this week...but it takes time because the computers are slow, and we're fairly lazy these days..(island time!!!) we're going off to the school now to do some more work (painting and fixing the library) until about 3:30pm (when ... read more

Yes thats right folks I just escaped the joys of New Zealand winter for whole 11 days in the tropical paradise of Rarotonga!! I'd no idea where the place was before I got there, so lets bascially say the Cook Islands are in the middle of the Pacific, south of Hawaii and east of French Polynesia. You can look it up if you want but the place is too small to be on most maps! Since I last blogged I spent a few weeks in a placed called Little River just outside Chch, with Sally and Richard Gabric, a Japanese wwoofer called Kako and their three dogs. This was one of the good wwoof farms, well set up for the job, you can tell Sally has been doing it for 18 years. The area was beautiful ... read more

Hi Everyone! yes, this is our very first entry from overseas!!! what an exciting day we've had! the flights over to rarotonga where pretty good...rather uncomfortable, but ok (I guess that's what you get when you fly budget airlines!) we managed to stay awake for the majority of the trip over...and we even got a massage! we found these heaps cool massage chairs at Auckland airport, so we bought ourselves come dinner and sat in the massage chairs for 3 hours...i'm not kidding...we sat in them for three hours...it was so good... when we got to Rarotonga, it was a balmy 18 degrees (but it felt like 25!) and we were picked up and brought back to the hostel...where we encountered some really feral drunk pommies! gggggrrrrrr.....they vomited everywhere...it was quite funny actually... we got all ... read more

We have reached the final leg of our journey, Rarotonga, in the South Pacific. Its been my turn to have to acclimatise from the city life (my natural habitat) to a tropical island where there is little to do other than lie on the beach. But its not exactly a hardship and I am still managing to find shopping opportunities. Immediately across from our apartment there is a beautiful secluded beach with a lagoon for snorkelling, both of which we pretty much have to ourselves. I have finally managed to go horse riding, in what must count as one of the highlights of the holiday, galloping across the beach, then riding, knee- high (mine not the horses') through the lagoon round to one of the main tourist beaches, where we caused quite a stir for those ... read more

The flight from Fiji to the Cook Islands is again three hours but due to the fact we cross the international dateline we get caught in a temporal anomaly which means we travel back in time. Our flight took off from Nadi at 6:15pm on Saturday 19th August and landed on Raratonga in the Cook Islands at 11:30pm on Friday 18th August, nearly 20 hours before we took off! This means that we get to enjoy the 19th August all over again, and we can claim to be one day younger than we actually are! So we arrived at Raratonga airport in the middle of the night -well at 11pm anyway, and got out on the tarmac. Our guide book had warned us to expect a warm welcome from a man with a ukulele but considering ... read more
