Hi Guys Hope you're all well. Not gonna lie, this is probably the happiest I've been in my life. This island is beautiful. It's only 32km around and full of wicked people. We've bought yummy treats from the local market (we've spent $8 each on food for the week, equiv of 3 pound fifty!). We've really landed on our feet accomodation-wise since the realm of Fiji. A real rags to riches story. We managed to get the deluxe apartment at the top of the hill for dorm rates (ten quid a night). Own room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, tv and dvd player and huge balcony for dinner and drying washing. The people here have made it brilliant aswell. At night we all gather on a deck that overlooks the sea and the lagoon. The sun sets and ... read more

Took us a few days to adjust to Island Life after LA... But we have adapted to the island lifestyle, just about!!! We have done... A visit to the Cultural Village, the island market, the local church to hear the singing and have managed to get up early enough to see the Sunrise!! On Monday we flew to Aitutaki, one of the smaller islands, which made Raro seem quite cosmopolitan in comparison. It is only 15km around the island and only has 1700 people who live on the island!! We had a day exploring the island on scooters, which was great fun. Although Holly Hat had a slight mishap and thought she would make her mark by falling off her scooter! Not entirely sure how she managed it and looking back we can laugh about ... read more

I first jump on a flight from LAX to Rarotonga flying Air New Zealand and the moment i stepped on board I was treated with such gratitude and comfort. When I arrived I was greeted by music and wiling people to help me get where I needed to be, in bed. After a short drive from the ariport I drove to my hotel, the Pacific Resort and had to say I was truly pleased. 09/03/07 - 15/03/07 Cook Islands Paradise on earth!! In the Cook Islands, the greeting equivalent to ‘Hello’ is ‘Kia oriana’ which translates as ‘May you have long life’ which has a more longevity than the greeting in most languages where we generally wish each other a mere ‘Good day’ only. We arrived late at night, spending our second Friday 9th March night in the Aquarius hotel just across from the Airport. Similarly to Fiji, we were met at the airport by the sound of a guitar, ukulele and singing which some feel is that beautiful island sound and others feel resembles the sound of a cat being strangled. I refuse to pass comment! Saturday it rained. And I mean Rained - it absolutely throw it down all day. We attempted to spend the day looking round ... read more

Finally after all the monsoon rain blue sky was seen, however there were still showers around. Trip to Aitutaki had by now been abandoned, so I was looking to another 2 tank dive on Rarotonga, provisionally booked Sunday but monsoon rain returned but Monday out came the sun so booked for the afternoon .Visibility was 25metres.1st dive a bit hairy as there was a strong current running, went to different location for 2nd dive so very interesting sites including reef shark, octopus, Trevor the trigger fish been there since 1975 and follows divers looking for food plus many more fish . My parting gift from Rarotonga two massive mosie bites Tuesday 13th March was a lovely sunny day so managed to get some rays in before I left that night. Now thinking about the adventure in ... read more

Cook Islands -Rarotonga The flight from Auckland was 4 hours .I arrived at 22-30 and was met by Bill the proprietor of the hostel. Temp 31C humidity in the 90’s, hit you like a brick wall. Left for hostel about 10klms from airport down the coast and crashed out. Rarotonga is the largest of the Cook Islands, there are 15 Islands in all, spread over an area the size of Europe (2 Million sq Kilometres). They are in two groups North and South some thing in the range of 700klms apart. Rarotonga is in the South group. Rarotonga is circumference is 32klms so you can get round it in about ½ hour. It is surrounded by a reef which is about 500metres off shore so you have a gentle lagoon to swim and snorkel in, water ... read more

Kia Orana! Wow! Is pretty much all we could say when we arrived here in the Cook Islands at 09:00 in the morning, as it is just so unbelieveable. For those of you who have seen Lost it's very much like that but if i'm not mistaken it's filmed somewhere like here so it's bound to look similar. So we've finally left the cold weather behind us and i'm so glad we had those few days of warm weather in LA to help us get used to the heat else I would have passed out as soon as we got off the plane as the heat really hits you hard. Well we did want to take some pictures of our short stop over in Tahiti so we could put up a blog for there too but ... read more

Gene and I spent our last day concluding our blog entries, writing post cards and packing our bags. We hadn’t realized until Thursday afternoon that our flight was heading out Friday night at 11:30 p.m., as opposed to Saturday night. While we were both disappointed to leave the Cook Islands, we welcome the new adventures that lie ahead of us in Fiji. While we awaited our shuttle bus to the airport in the lounge of our hotel, a little Rarotongan boy befriended Gene, pulling out the children’s version of Trivial Pursuit. I convinced Gene to play along as it appears that the children on the island lack a much-needed attention, based on their incessant hunt for the attention of the tourists. On the other hand, it may merely be the effect of the Islanders’ overly friendly ... read more
