I've never been, so can't help any more sorry :-) Someone else may be able to post a better answer.

I just Googled something like 'Cook Islands weather' and picked a link that looked useful. If you try google there'll be more info.

You could try posting in the Looking for Travel Companions forum, or you could just go by yourself and meet other travellers over there.
All depends on how independent you want to be.
