Kia Orana (Cook Island greeting meaning may you live long) everybody from the Cook Islands. Well actually from New Zealand now, but now that I am in the land of cheaper and much more reliable internet I can post to the blog and get you caught up on what has been going on over the last month or so. The journey got started on Nov. 10th with a nice 3 ½ hour long drive up from San Diego to LA (I don’t think I’ll miss California traffic for a while) and a visit to Jay and Susan in Venice before heading over to LAX and out on my flight to the Cook Islands at 10:15 at night. Outside of the lady at the check in counter charging my $160 for my board bag and a long ... read more

So it's the Saturday 11th November, exactly one year on from when I was sat in Heathrow about to start this huge adventure. Today I'm sat in Nadi airport to catch a flight to Rorotonga a small little Island, part of the Idilic Cook Islands in the middle of the South Pacific. I arrived in Rarotonga on Friday 10th November. Extremely confusing for you as it is for me. By travelling this way around the world we have managed to gain a day in our trip by crossing the Dateline, therefore we celebrate being away for a year not once but twice. I am now writing in past tense as it was a very long time ago since I was actually in Raro'. What did we do in Raro?? To be honest not very much. When ... read more

Just coming to the end of our week in the cook islands, and wishing we could stay! This place is incredible, really cheap, everyone's really friendly, and best of all it's the most gorgeous place i've ever seen! Scuba diving's been amazing here, btu annoyingly it started raining a few days ago (turns out it's cyclone season - cheers STA) and we havn't been able to complete our last dive! So we've gotta finnish it of in Fiji now - what a bugger! But best of all we finally could drink and managed to make it out to town the last few days! The island is basically just full of backpackers, everyone's doing the same tour and either just starting or just ending their trip. We've rented mopeds, which are absolutley amazing, but you do feel ... read more

We're in the cooks now, updates may be getting a bit thinner for the next week or so as the computers here are steam powered and it's ar too hot to sit at one - 31 degrees in the shade! Gorgeous! but hot....... This place is amazing, island looks like the centre of lost, beaches are perfect, got a hostel that's a little tree house on the mountain side with a pool! Which some people actually sit by when the most beautiful beaches are a 10 min walk away! Wht not just go to spain????!!!!!!! Havn't actually seen much of the island yet (it's only 32km around) as we've been doing our PADI open water course, 7.45am til 6 pm! and knackered by ther end of it! So we've been little reclusives in our tree house ... read more

Kia Orana from the paradise! I'm visiting Rarotonga now which is the main island of Cook Islands, which (in some way) is part of New Zealand. They speak English here though and the local maori language, so communication is definitely not a problem. The island is awesome, maybe one of the most beautiful islands I have ever visited, and it feels very genuine as well, not very exploited which I like. It was a four hour flight from Auckland to Rarotonga and already after landing I could feel I was in the South Pacific. In the immigration hall there was a man playing some kind of guitar och singing pacific songs. Apparently he is there for every single international arrival no matter what time of the day, but there are only like 6-7 per week anyway. ... read more

So... we left Perth and travelled to the Cook islands. It was a funny journey because we actually crossed the timeline and went back a day. We left Perth on the 21st, transferred in Auckland on the 22nd and arrived in Raratonga on the 21st - six hours earlier than when we had left Perth! The flights and transfers took about 15 hours but time disagreed. Weird. Anyhoo... not much point talking loads about Raratonga because essentially it was a Paradise Island, we spent most of the time jetting about on scooters with my parents leading the way, sun bathing, reading books, playing cards, sleeping... and oh yeah... brother number 2 (out of 4, me being the 3rd) got married to Sister-in-law no.2... (Helen being sister-in-law No.1 of course). The main reason I thought I should ... read more

The cook islands is a tiny south pacific nation of only 14 000 people spread over 15 islands over a massive area of ocean. It's still classed as part of polynesia (like French Polynesia) but is much cheaper and better caters to travellers, the people are also much more friendly, almost too friendly and the pace is very laid back. We spent two weeks on the main Island of Rarotonga, which is just 32 km right round, we had one week on either side of the island. Roro is a trpical tropical island with a contiuouse white sand beach enclosed by a lagoon with a lush rugged hilly interia. The first hostel was a local family run hostel called Backpackers International, which was incredibly friendly and thus prompted us to try out the local culture (night-life) ... read more

We took a four hour flight from Auckland to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and then flew to Aitutaki, a beautiful small island surrounded by a coral reef and lagoon. The water here is clear and turquoise, and full of colourful tropical fish that swim around your ankles as you paddle in the lagoon. We stayed in a thatched villa next to a white sandy beach and spent a lot of time just lying around in the sun. It really was like some kind of unspoilt paradise out of a holiday brochure and much of the time we had the beach to ourselves. When we got bored of lying on the beach and drinking the bar dry (it's a hard life), we borrowed kayaks and explored the lagoon. We also went out on a fishing boat ... read more

After 3 days being 'lost in transit' in L.A., Tahiti, and on board several Air New Zealand flights, I eventually arrived here on the paradise island of Rarotonga! Weather forecast on arrival...overcast with rain on the way!! Not the start I was looking for. Apparently it had been raining non-stop for about a week...it had the making of a very long week in "paradise." One week later, however, and looking back over the past few days, I couldn't have asked for a better statr to my trip! What a week it's been! In between attending to my mosquito bites and being woken on the hour by crowing cockerels whose time clocks seem to be about out of sync with the rest of the island, I have had a 'busy' week and the sun even came out ... read more

Missa saa merinakoalan hostellihuoneen ikkunasta, joka on myos kuvattu postikorttiin? Missa omaiset haudataan omalle pihalle? Missa noin 99% ruokatavarasta tuodaan ulkomailta (lahinna Uudesta Seelannista)?
