EXMOUTH When we arrived back in WA after our Asian adventure we hired a 4WD Wicked campervan and headed north up the coast. We first stopped for a night at Lancelin and the next day started the long drive north up to Denham at Shark Bay. It took ages and as we reached the Overlander Roadhouse the sun was setting with a massive storm brewing - the clouds were so dark and purple, it was one of the best sunsets ever! As it was getting dark we were going to stay at the roadhouse but it looked rough so we carried on in the dark to the nearest campsite by the stromatolites. Needless to say we saw a few roos bouncing around and had to go real slow but eventually made it to the campsite which ... read more

We left Bali in a minibus with another couple which took us to the ferry crossing to Java. It was only supposed to take 30 mins but took nearly an hour and a half as they overloaded it we think - we were even going backwards at one point!! We got back on the minibus once in Java to start heading to Mount Ijen which we were due to climb the following morning. It was the rainy season at that time and it was pelting it down and soon there were torrents of water flowing alongside the road or across the roads that looked like raging rivers. We stopped at one point where there was an exceptionally fast flowing torrent rushing across the road and we all heaved a sigh of relief that the driver was ... read more

We flew into Kathmandu and got picked up and taken to our hostel. We had forgotten how much we like our more flashy hotels but the hostel was right by the Thamel area so there were plenty of restaurants and shops to walk round. The first thing we realised was that Kathmandu is a very busy and polluted city and after spending the past week in big cities in India we wanted to get out of the city and find somewhere more relaxing (with a nice hotel). So the next morning we caught a bus to Pokhara near the Annapurna range of mountains that are part of the gigantic Himalayas. We realised in Kathmandu that there are a lot of tourists in Nepal and good places stay are busy and often full so we eventually found ... read more

We flew into Delhi and got picked up and taken to our hotel and first reaction - this is the worst traffic we have ever seen! It was absolute chaos with cows everywhere but we made it in one bit to Hotel Perfect. Maybe not perfect but definitely nowhere near the worst we have ever stayed! The hotel was located by a road full of shops and market stalls so we had a wander around and had our first Indian meal which was amazing! Finally after the let down of Sri Lankan curries we finally found chillies!!! The next day we met our tour leader and the rest of our group, well actually it was just one other British girl, Debbie and that was it! We were on the Tiger Safari trip for the next 15 ... read more

We were so sad to leave Indo, it is the most amazing place but it was time to move on to KL for a night before flying to the Indian Subcontinent for the first time. First stop, Sri Lanka which we had never really thought about going to until I bought Rich a surf atlas of the world and he looked through it and saw the waves in Sri Lanka! We spent the first 2 nights in Negombo in a crappy hotel but our balcony overlooked the beach which more than made up for it and began getting into a Sri Lankan routine of sweating, eating curry twice a day and drinking tea at least twice a day which we did pretty much everyday for the whole month we spent here!!! We were hoping to hire ... read more

Sorry we did not pose any blogs during our travels but we encountered some technological difficulties and many, many power cuts so we are going to update them now we are back in Perth! We arrived in Kuta, Bali at lunchtime on 5 January and sailed through immigration as we had already got our 60 day visas from the Indonesian Consulate in Perth. We were met at the airport by someone from the hotel which is called Suji Bungalows. We usually stay at Hotel Sorga but when we went there in June last year it was a bit run down so decided to try a place just down the road. We really liked the new hotel which has a great pool and air con and a fridge in the room which is great. It is actually ... read more

Happy New Year everbody, we hope you all had a great time and a wonderful Christmas! As most of you already know, we have itchy feet again and have decided a little travelling is in order. We are so glad we came to Perth to live over the last 14 months. There have been low points (Rich working on roofs in 40 degree heat, WA drivers, lack of British Cadburys Dairy Milk) but also many high points including getting hitched at Cable Beach and seeing some of the amazing places that are on offer in Western Australia. We have been down south a few times to the Margaret River area, particularly Yallingup, which is one of our favourite places in this corner of the world. When we went down there in November we nearly trod on ... read more

After the nasty border crossing we arrived in Costa Rica which we have been really looking forward to. We have not been disappointed. The only downside of travelling in Costa Rica though are the roads and buses which we quickly discovered. From the border we caught a bus to Liberia and then another to Tamarindo, a surfing town made famous by Endless Summer II. It took hours - the roads were horrific, the bus stopped every ten seconds to let someone on and off and the driver ate his lunch as he drove at 20km per hr. Once we arrived at Tamarindo we went round a few car rental places and found a pretty good deal on a 4WD for a week. Rich bought a second hand surfboard and the next day we loaded up the ... read more

We stayed in Leon for 2 nights to catch up with laundry, emails and wander around the old colonial town. However, it was absolutely boiling here, within seconds of wandering around the sweat was pouring off us. The first night we stayed in a place recommended in the Lonely Planet which was quite nice, however the room was quite small and the fan just blew around hot air. After lying like starfish on the bed whilst sweating buckets we asked if we could have air con and the owner said that would be an extra 20 quid a night. Rich nearly had another money related heart attack and so we spent the entire night sweating like pigs and moaning. However, the next day we found a new hotel with air con so we laid on the ... read more

From Antigua we got into another really comfortable minibus heading to Copan Ruinas in Honduras. It took over 6 hours and being conned out of money at both immigration posts before we arrived there. To top things off our bags, which had been strapped onto the roof, were soaked through. The next day we went to the ruins here which were pretty good with scarlet macaws flying about which are massive. We also went for a walk along the jungle trail and saw a massive rodent type thing. Rich reckons it was Roland Rat so that must be what it was!! After such a strenuous morning we went to Aguas Calientes (Hot Springs) in the afternoon which involved an hour up a very potholed and bumpy road. When we arrived we had two choices; Option 1 ... read more
