Happy New Year everbody, we hope you all had a great time and a wonderful Christmas! As most of you already know, we have itchy feet again and have decided a little travelling is in order. We are so glad we came to Perth to live over the last 14 months. There have been low points (Rich working on roofs in 40 degree heat, WA drivers, lack of British Cadburys Dairy Milk) but also many high points including getting hitched at Cable Beach and seeing some of the amazing places that are on offer in Western Australia. We have been down [View Full Entry]

After the nasty border crossing we arrived in Costa Rica which we have been really looking forward to. We have not been disappointed. The only downside of travelling in Costa Rica though are the roads and buses which we quickly discovered. From the border we caught a bus to Liberia and then another to Tamarindo, a surfing town made famous by Endless Summer II. It took hours - the roads were horrific, the bus stopped every ten seconds to let someone on and off and the driver ate his lunch as he drove at 20km per hr. Once we arrived at [View Full Entry]

We stayed in Leon for 2 nights to catch up with laundry, emails and wander around the old colonial town. However, it was absolutely boiling here, within seconds of wandering around the sweat was pouring off us. The first night we stayed in a place recommended in the Lonely Planet which was quite nice, however the room was quite small and the fan just blew around hot air. After lying like starfish on the bed whilst sweating buckets we asked if we could have air con and the owner said that would be an extra 20 quid a night. Rich nearly [View Full Entry]

From Antigua we got into another really comfortable minibus heading to Copan Ruinas in Honduras. It took over 6 hours and being conned out of money at both immigration posts before we arrived there. To top things off our bags, which had been strapped onto the roof, were soaked through. The next day we went to the ruins here which were pretty good with scarlet macaws flying about which are massive. We also went for a walk along the jungle trail and saw a massive rodent type thing. Rich reckons it was Roland Rat so that must be what it was!! [View Full Entry]

It took 1 bus and 3 boats for us to get from Placencia in Belize to Livingston on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala. It is fairly similar to Belize with lots of rastas, Bob Marley blaring and funny smelling cigarettes. After splashing out in Belize we thought we would save some pennies and stay in a cheap room at only 4 quid a night. We think it may have been a prison cell at some point due to the bars on the windows and prion type doors with viewing hatches for the guards! It also resembled a cave as it was [View Full Entry]

We left Mexico and into Belize by a very old former American school bus. Its amazing how many people you can fit in a bus with seats designed for small kid's bottoms!!! We turned up in Belize City where we caught a boat to Caye Caulker, a small island within Belize's barrier reef (the second largest in the world). When we arrived it was boiling hot and everyone was walking around saying what's up mon in a strong Caribbean accent in barefeet. Reggae rules here and dreadlocked rastas roam the streets (sandy lanes actually). We found a flash place to stay [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone! We survived the night bus to San Cristobal de las Casas but only just, think the wizard's night bus from Harry Potter but without the beds. The driver seemed to have a death wish and drove like a maniac around really tight bends as we came through the mountains and only turning the steering wheel at the very last second. We were sitting in the front row which made it even worse as we could we see the sheer drops that were at the side of the road and all the crosses and flowers where other buses haven't made [View Full Entry]

Hola amigos!!! We have been in Mexico just over a week now and have been having a brilliant time except our stomachs which have taken a bit of time to get used to things over here! We arrived in Mexico City first which is so big and so busy it makes London look like Alfriston. However, Rich has been getting incredibly excited as VW beetles are everywhere and are also the taxis. So on the first day we went to the Anthropology Museum by, yeah you guessed it, beetle taxi! It was like watching a kid in a sweet shop. After [View Full Entry]

As most of you know, we have decided to go travelling again and give Oz another go. It has been great being back in Seaford with our families and friends but we both felt like we hadn't got travelling out of our system quite yet. We also both feel that we should give Oz another try and hopefully this time will be more successful than the last. Most of you already know that Kerry has accepted a job in Perth, Western Australia which is really good news. We spent 2 weeks in Perth and the surrounding area before we came back [View Full Entry]

The Land Down Under

We arrived at the YHA in Melbourne after an overnight flight so we were pretty knackered. It was 9am and our room would not be ready until 1pm so we bought some brekkie and ate it in the communal area at the hostel. Whilst munching on his cornflakes, Richard noticed a 1974 VW camper that was for sale and parked in the hostel car park. He had a look at it and came back with that familiar glint in his eye which meant "I want it". We spoke to the owners who were also British so we went for a [View Full Entry]
