The first thing I noticed as I stepped off the plane after my 6.5 hour flight from Bangkok was it was bloody cold, like 14 degrees. Granted it was 7 in the morning and got to 27 degrees during the day but it felt weird. Out came the hoodie which hasn't seen daylight since Kangaroo Island, bbrrr!!! Hotel is lovely and right in the centre of the action, loads of nice sushi restaurants, strip shows, pink palaces (i'll explain another time) and sights to see. The first day was a bit of a rubbish day, being a night flight from Bangkok and getting no sleep, my bed saw far too much of a person only in town for 3 days. Shame but I did venture out mid-afternoon and evening to see a few things and have ... read more

After passing a tough imigration from Vietnam we arrived in Cambodia, to be honest not too sure what to expect. we met our new guide Sam and picked up 4 more people, 3 girls and a guy so the group was back to its larger size again. We jumped on the coach for what should have been a 6 hour journey on shitty roads from the boarder to Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Sadly we had to cross the Mekong River again, sadly no bridge here, just slow ass ferries and a million people returning home after the new years celebrations. We arrived at the crossing to find an enormous queue, so decided to bail out of the coach and get some food. It was kinda a middle of nowhere sort of town ... read more

As soon as you step into Vietnam you are immediately hit by the hussle and bussle. Comparing Vietnam and Laos is like comparing London to Eastbourne and it is so obvious. The immdeiate thing is the driving, it is worse than Bangkok and Laos put together, they never stop beeping their horns, not in aggression but to warn others. Sounds ok, but when 2000 mopeds, a few big lorries and loads of vans do it it starts to get on your nerves a little. Also crossing the roads is hard, a red light like most countries means stop but they rarely do, you are suppost to walk slowly, make eye contact and they will drive around you, not as easy as it sounds!! Our first stop in Vietnam after the border was Vinh, a 15km ... read more

Many people describe Laos as Thailand 15 years ago, so I was excited to visit a place which I already knew was going to be basic without a doubt. The first night, we hopped across the Mekong river and stayed at Huay Xai which is a crossing town so slightly more advanced and geared up for western tourists than te majority of Laos. A nice little town with an impressive Temple at the top of a hill, steps to the top. A quick your of the town and it was already getting dark. We had dinner with our new Laos guide, Ole and heard what we were doing for the next few days. The next morning, bright and early (after a strong cup of Lao Coffee, the most expensive per Kg in the world and ... read more

Arrived in Bangkok 2 days before my tour was due to start, giving me time to get my washing done, a few shirts measured up and a trip to the Khao San road to drink copious amounts of mekong whisky and dodgy redbull buckets. Stayed at the Radisson hotel so chilling out wasn't too hard, the weather was even nice so the tanning came on nicely after a week in Sun-less Kuala Lumpur. Had a great night out in Bangkok on the Khao San road, met some nice people and got very pissed, looking for a ping-pong show at 3am but to no avail sadly. I was very nervous about starting the tour and meeting the people that I had to be with for the next 33 days but that was quickly calmed when we ... read more

Arrived in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur (KL) the capital city. At night as we pulled into the station you could see the massive glow of the lights on the Petronas Towers and the impressive skyline. A taxi to my hotel cost 2 pounds and I realised this was perhaps when it starts to get cheap, Singapore was not the cheapest place, I expected less anyway! Staying at a nice 4 star hotel for peanuts with pool and restaurants etc for a whole week, bliss. A lot of ESPN watching and eating great food for the first few days, English Premier League is huge out here and they show almost every match. Caught Arsenal v Villa and Everton while ordering room service. Went I finally braved Daylight, I found Kuala Lumpur to be a really great city. ... read more

I left Sydney after 2 days on my own after the lads had left. It was a bit of a come down really and I wasn't really sure what to do with myself. I did a few sights, enjoyed the Paddies day celebrations (a week early in Sydney) and got myself ready to hit Asia. I left Monday afternoon and arrived in Singapore Monday night, having 3 seats to myself on the plane, which was a nice little treat. Wasn't really too sure what I was gonna think about Singapore, not heard anything or seen to many pictures. The first day I was up at thge crack of dawn mainly because I was still on Sydney time and my usual midday wake up, was in fact 9am. I hopped on the Singapore Airlines sightseeing bus which ... read more

Schulz, Stu and Jimbo came out to visit Nic in Australia - guest written by Mr. K. Schulz. The trip started with a bang on our first night, and we basically learnt what animals bouncers in Australia are. Nic and I couldn't get into a pub and Nic was protesting in a manner befitting an English gentleman when suddenly these crazy big bouncers started punching him. To his credit he fought back and was rewarded with a potentially broken wrist for the rest of the trip (which he didn't check out of course). We then met up with the others in the Kings Cross area only to meet with more trouble as Jimbo was bundled down the stairs leading to a mass brawl of bouncers laying into Englishman, including other bouncers from surrounding bars running up ... read more

After 1 night back in Perth it was time to head North and up the West Coast of Australia. I had placed an advert in the hostel to see if anyone wanted to come with me and share the costs. I had 2 replies, one from a belgian guy and one from a German girl, who sadly pulled out before I got back to Perth. I was gutted but Miguel seemed a nice guy after meeting him at last. Early doors on the first day after a boozy night before, I thought I only had to drive 400km to Geraldton but when I got there I had a rethink and drove in total 850km in one go from Perth directly to Monkey Mia. Monkey Mia for those who dont know is a World Herritage site and ... read more

Having been in Sydney for over a month I really fancied getting back on the road and visiting pastures new. I jumped on a 5 hour Qantas flight to Perth and to the last Aussie state I had yet to visit, Western Australia. I arrived in Perth mid afternoon and was bowled over by the heat, a really dry heat around the 35-40 degree mark, I had been warned it was a hot area. First day I didn't do too much really, met my mate Phil and wandered around the city, a few photos and a few pints of beer. I knew I'd be hitting the road in a few days so it was my first and last chance to hit a few bars and get pissed. Backpackers night at the Aberdeen hotel (2 for 1 ... read more
