Panic in Perth We left you with a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the last blog. We wanted you to experience a small fraction of the adrenalin (read: stress) we felt at the moment we started to think that we might not be able to get to Sydney in time to catch our ship to New Zealand. You'll remember that we got to Perth around 9am on the morning of the 6th. The Indian Pacific was due to leave at 11:55am. The booking office at Perth Central station advised us that the seats were sold out. They also told us that there was no longer any coach service running from Perth to Adelaide or Sydney because flights had put them out of business. We checked our e mail to see if our ... read more

Leaving Perth behind we headed to the south western corner of Australia and the Margaret River Region. We have been treated to amazing caves, chocolate, fudge and cheese had a wonderful week. Our first stop was Busselton and the underwater observatory. Here you walk almost 2 k's along a jetty and then you walk 8 meters down under the sea all without getting wet!! It was ideal for me (H) as I finally got a good look at the underwater world without having to worry about my ears. The view was pretty amazing, there were a fair few fish but my favourite thing was the coral on the columns holding up the jetty. The colours were amazing and made for excellent photos. After Busselton we headed for Margaret River. Whilst in town we sampled the fudge ... read more

Great day today, We went to Rottnest Island. Got on a boat in Perth which took an hour and a half to get to the Island but there we could see all the sights along Swan River. The girl commentating had a really annoying voice though. We hired bikes and rode round the Island. It's only about 8km long and 2-4km high so it doesn't take too long, but there are lots of lovely beaches on the way with not many people on it so it was really good to go there. I recommend going there to anyone as there is a train, and a bus that can take you round the island too.... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Geraldton December 12th 2006

HELL YA! I have been back in Perth for a day. And I coudn't possibly be happier. This is totally where I've needed to be, and I should never have left. I watched three people drink piss today. Like...real people piss. It was shocking. The guy who pissed in the bottle drank it first. The others followed. Ick. Having the time of my life again guys, so no worries about me anymore. I've got nothing bad to say about this place. Did y'all know we actually do say "aboot"??? its unfortunate. ... read more

Maandag 11 december.

We drove down from Yalingup to Narnalop via a couple of vineyards (great lunch at the Xanadu winery) and the Lake Cave - a big hole in the ground that we took a tour around. Pretty impressive stalactites and straws and curtains and hanging tables - obviously all the photos we took make it look like we were in a dark hole in the ground. A couple of hours drive later and we were driving through the hamlet of Narnalop trying to remember what our accomadation was called. Finally decided to look it up in our notes, found the details, turned round and went back to it. A two room luxury cabin a little too close to the others, but all fine that aside. Today (Monday 11th Dec) we went to the beach at Greens Pool, ... read more

The few days we spend cruising the Yangzte was great fun. We were fearful as to the standard of rooms we would have, but they were fine, and besides, we spent most of our time either in the restaurant, hanging out at the back of the boat, playing Mah Jong or singing karaoke hehehe.... read more
