We left Saddle creek rest area and headed west to the Western Australia border where there is a checkpoint and on arrival had our van checked for fruit and vegies. The border patrol officer was really nice; we had been previously warned about the fruit and vegies and were all clear to proceed. Arrived at Kununurra and went to the visitors centre to see where we could stay. WE ended up at the showground for $22 a night good value booked in for 2 nights but will probably stay longer no Optus phone, the Telstra works a lot better out here. Set up camp and went shopping as no fruit and vegies. At the back of the showground there is a big aussie rules oval and we can let the dogs off to run around. ... read more

Left Darwin around 8.30 am, Marg made a comment saying that “Bailey, Chloe and herself don’t really like cities”. Darwin is nice but very restricting if traveling with dogs as we knew it would be, maybe we should have done more sight seeing but it was really hot for us. Up to approx 80 km’s away from Darwin along the main hwy there is old runways from WWII every couple of km’s We had cross head wind all the way to Katherine some 290 km’s away, so we had to stop at Hayes creek for fuel, at every fuel stop Marg takes the dogs for a pee and at Hayes creek she noticed on a shelter a couple of old photos, one was of John Wayne and troop touring the soldiers and entertaining them when ... read more

Before we left Manbulloo homestead we got chatting again with Rodney a fellow traveler camped next to us. The night before he had offered to go through the map with us to point out some good free spots to stop as he was traveling in the opposite direction as us and had traveled roughly where we were going. He went through the Camp Site 4 book wit us and was extremely helpful. After all the info he gave us his Business card and on it was Breakthrough meditation Marg said to him that she could have used him to show her how to meditate. So if anyone is interested Rodney’s web site is www.rodneystoddart.com.au So we are off again and we decided to do a free stop tonight and go into Western Australia tomorrow. We ... read more

Another hot day (33) so we decided to stay at the van for a rest day and to keep the dogs in the cool. While Marg was at the laundry she read a notice for a massage therapy’s who claims to relieve sinus problems with ear candling, so after talking to her, Marg decided to go through with the process and after dinner we went over to see her. As Marg was getting it done started to have a chat with her husband Trevor who is area Manager for APT ours. Trevor and Lyn gave us some valuable information about the top end touring nd len us some vd on Kakado and surrounding areas. That night Marg had a very sound sleep so ear candling seemed to work for her sinus ... read more

After leaving Perth for Kununurra I was glad to see that the weather on my arrival was nice and hot, as Perth was starting to get a little chilly. I was met by the guys from the farm and given a ute so that I could get around and sort out the house that they had supplied me. To my surprise I was given a 5 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen to myself located about 15km outside the main town and about the same distance from the farm. The house was excellent except for a couple of snakes that I had to get removed as they had not paid any rent. Well two of them I got my next door neighbour to remove (yes I was scared) and the other one I removed ... read more

Hey All I have made it to WA! First time I have driven to this state and the first time that I have been in this part of the country. I am currently in the town of Kununurra, situated in the East Kimberley ranges. Kununurra was “built” after Lake Argyle was constructed. It is a relatively small town, but is designed to service the agricultural land which has been created in this part of the country by the Ord River Irrigation Project. This project is fed by Lake Argyle - a man made lake which is (wait for it) 22 times the capacity of Sydney Harbour! These guys have so much water that 65% of what they release from the dam is simply poured out into the ocean. They reckon that there is enough water in ... read more

Greetings from Western Australia! We crossed the border yesterday and had to give away our fruit, veg and honey before doing so.A kind soul gave us some fish in return. We have had a wonderful week in the Kakadu Nat. Park.I now treat big crocs lying on the river bank as common(tho still scary). We took a day tour into Arnhemland and visited Aboriginal rock art sites which was quite fascinating-"Our First People" as the PM refers to them have been here 50,000 years.A sunrise cruise on the "Yellow River" was probably the highlight with so much birdlife and up close to big crocs.(see photos). We aso did a gruelling bit of 4WD to Twin Falls and Jim Jim Falls.Crossing Jim Jim River with a croc warning sign and deep enough to create a bow wave was a bit disconcerting. The last ... read more
