Thu 14 June. Time to hit the road again. Debbie is still not well. We set off from Kalbarri around 8:30. The weather was ok but still overcast. Today we are heading for Denham, some 375 k's away. On the way we plan to visit Hawks Head and Ross Graham lookout. According to Sandy the gorge looked gorgeous, a play on words or just accidental....we'll never know. Either way the scenery was spectacular even though we were once again dodging the rain! Back on the road with the next stop is Billabong and time for lunch, at least for Sandy and I. Steve and Debbie decided to have a cup of tea and a biscuit in the caravan then head off whilst we are waiting for lunch to arrive (you'll never guess what we had for ... read more

Jun 13th The weather is finally getting back to normal. We have been in contact with Jayde who has let us know that the house survived the storm last night. So now it's time to get back to normal and enjoy the adventure. Debbie is getting over her cold but is still far from well and the pelicans once again were a no show for breakfast feeding. Today was Steve doing the driving in the Land Cruiser. We have headed off south along the coast after finding out that the road to natures window and z bend was still closed (very frustrating). Today our first stop was the Rainbow Jungle bird sanctuary. Some beautiful colours on the parrots and galahs. And quite a spectacular walk through aviary. From there it was onto Lynton Station and the convict ... read more

June 12th A good night's sleep once again then it's off to see the pelicans (or was that penguins?) being fed at 8:45. We've had breakfast and trundled over the road to the park overlooking the the river where the pelicans turn up to be fed every day....every day except for today. Expectant visitors turned up along with the volunteer feeder but no pelicans. Oh well maybe another day? Debbie's cold appears to be getting worse, so unfortunately for her it was back to bed and try to get some rest. Steve decided to potter around the van and do some work on the computer. Sandy and I headed of to do some exploring and sightseeing. We decided to do the Kalbarri Coastal cliffs. Wow, what a spectacular coastline. The large swells of the ocean helped ... read more

Mon 11th june Well we survived the night in Cervantes thanks to the holiday home and finished up with a good nights sleep. Steve and Debbie finished up leaving before 8:00am just as Sandy and I were getting out of bed. Breakfast and packing up got us back on the road by 9:30. The weather was a bit calmer but still quite windy. A quick stop in Port Dennison for coffee and a custard pie for me and Sandy had the coffee and a party pie. On the way down to Port Dennison we stuck the only downpour for the day...it lasted all of 30 seconds, but dumped a stack of rain. On the road again we made our way to Geralton for lunch and a refueling stop. We caught up with Debbie and Steve on ... read more

This morning we headed out to the stunning Kalbarri National Park. There was about a 27 km stretch of dirt road before we hit some of the attractions so we took it nice and slow as the old van isn't as durable as some of the 4WDs we see around the traps. I never expected to see such spectacular surroundings until we headed up to the Kimberley. The views we had out over the gorges and the rest of the Park were unlike anything I had seen before. I have posted the photos for all to see and I will let them do the talking. We had planned to see two more attractions on the way out when disaster struck. I had noticed the windscreen wipers were moving slower than usual and at the moment I ... read more

It looks as though the sunny weather has disappeared for a while and the last few days have generally been cloudy and wet but it's still quite tolerable as the temperature is mild. Saturday started very wet but started to clear mid-morning as we sauntered around Dongara and took a look at the local markets. As we headed towards Geraldton we had to literally dodge some tumble weeds along the highway that were the size of beach balls........thought you only saw such things in bad westerns. After a pit stop in Geraldton we moved to the mid-west coastal town of Kalbarri. The town came highly recommended and on first look it did not disappoint. Surrounded by a rugged coastline and a national park it looks to be a beautiful spot. Our campsite at a local caravan ... read more

Kalbarri 28th April to 2nd May After leaving Lynton we pass through Port Gregory which although it has a lot of history as an early port, is basically just a sleepy fishing destination these days along the coast. We did see one Lobster fishing vessel here so maybe a bit of commercial fishing also still happens here. Further along we went past the turnoff to Hutt River Province, a 75 sq klm principality. With their own government, money and postage stamps, Hutt River exists as an independent sovereign state (albeit not in law?) and welcomes tourists ensuring a source of revenue. We were unable to make the detour this trip to see the Principality much to Trisha’s dismay. Kalbarri lies at the mouth of the Murchison River, flanked by the Kalbarri National Park. In 1629 Captain ... read more

28 March - 5 April 2012 What an amazing place!! The further north we travel, the more stunning the landscape becomes. We took the coastal road to Kalbarri which is an awesome little town with scenic coastal cliffs, a beautiful national park and a picturesque river running though it all the way to the mountains of the national park. We stopped off at most of the lookouts along the Coastal Cliffs, fished off the jetty, went four wheel driving through the bush along the river, took the boys to the daily pelican feeding on the foreshore (where they both got to feed the local feathered friends), went swimming in the park pool every afternoon to cool down, and spent a day in the national park. The national park was as amazing as people had told us ... read more
