Today we have decided to visit Freemantle, which is a small town just 20 minutes away from Perth. Kim (one of the girls on the Western Xposure tour) is in Perth until tomorrow so is going to come with us. We buy our tickets for the train and sneakly get the concession tickets from the machine, Kim says she had not been asked to show proof of concessions yet and it's only half the price so we give it a go! We arrive in Freo (as the locals call it) and after a few minutes of wandering idle we become proper tourists again and head for the Tourist Centre to get some free maps! We decide to have a wander to the Freemantle Prison, this was one of the main Jail's they used to house all ... read more

Having stayed with Grandma and Grandad Feneley for the weekend we flew to Perth Monday lunchtime for our holiday in Dunsborough. We stayed the night at the Esplanade hotel in Fremantle after mummy and daddy had pigged out on seafood at Joe's Fish Shack on the harbour. The following morning we had breakfast on the cappucino strip and had a good look around Fremantle, including some time on the swings and slides in the park for me!! We also visited the WA Maritime Museum which Daddy loved and gave us a chance to buy Grandad Sharpe a card and gift for his Birthday. Fremantle was very bright and sunny but quite chilly, even in December! Then it was time to head south to Dunsborough.... read more

Fremantle Saturday 24th Awake 9am, nearly the first - again trying to find everything in the dark and I didn't even leave it all ready today! By 10am nearly ready to leave, book my shuttle to the airport for Monday, check my destination before getting to the train station just in time for the train (there's one every 15 minutes so not that unusual) - $3.40 for a single (concession didn't seem to apply), 1/2 hour to Fremantle on a clean train which feels more like being on the Tube. Have no grand plan for Fremantle but want to see the prison and some of the old buildings so head through the middle and find the prison. Decide not to bother with the Tunnels tour but to come back 330 for the main tour followed by ... read more

Day 235 (16.11.07) We have a couple more days before we fly out of Perth to Alice Springs and we'd decided we wanted to spend them in Fremantle as we really liked it there and would get to see Ozzie again before we left. We had a few things to do today before we could leave so we headed into town and were done by lunchtime. They had put up Christmas decorations around the city since we were last here - so strange, to us it doesn't feel like christmas is on it's way - the weather just keeps getting hotter and we can't help associating xmas with winter! We caught the train the short distance down to Freo and checked into our hostel before heading into town for a wander, checking out a fashion show ... read more

well back to the story, going to print some pictures which should have been with the last blog , we carn't always find an internet cafe so bare with us for the updates, Fremantle- arrived here after looking at a few places on the coast, its about 20mins drive to Perth, found a campsite at woodmans point, there a nice beach with a small jetty so my man can go fishing again!we found a Vw garage up the road the manager was really helpful, it was going to be 2,500 dollars for the valves doing but we had to wait a week, so Neil bought some for a good price as he does, and he decided to crack on himself well what a job,40 degrees and flies all over attacking him, he was a mad man shouting ... read more

I've spent close to 2.5 full weeks in Freo and another leg of my trip is about to begin. I'll be heading to SE Asia for the next month. I'll start in Thailand, then do a tour through Cambodia that drops me off in Vietnam. It is still up in the air right now on whether to head to Laos of stay in Vietnam...I'm welcome to suggestions. I felt like I've had a much stronger cultural experience in this past couple weeks than I did during my entire time studying abroad. After returning from Rottnest I played touch rugby with Paul and his friends again. I didn't contribute much to the game, but at least I didn't take away like last time. Over the weekend I spent Saturday walking about Freo with Paul and his family. ... read more

Day 217 (28.10.07) After our eventful night we gave up on the idea of sleep for a bit and went to get some breakfast after which we decided to try and get an hour or so of shut eye before heading to Fremantle our next port of call. Here we would meet up with Ozzie from the Gibbon Experience, back home to earn some money for his next adventure. Thankfully we were able to get a little kip but unfortunately we overslept and were late in arriving to meet up with Ozzie. However it turned out that he'd done the same and we arranged to meet up later in the day. We checked into a hostel based in a converted fire station and with a much friendlier feel to it. Once settled we set out to ... read more

Three years after studying abroad in Perth, I've returning to the area where so many memories were made. It is very different being here without all the people who I studied with, but I've enjoyed it just as much. I'm staying with Paul (program director) and Kate along with their boys Tim and Ned. They have a very nice detached bed/bath/kitchen I've been using for the past 10 days. When I can, I try to help out playing the role of Mr. Mom. I've picked up Tim from kindergarten, done some minor babysitting, cooked dinner, etc. I've done so much since I've been here, I'm not sure how to go review it. When I first arrived, I returned to the city of Fremantle (Freo) where I spent quite a bit of time at the small shops, ... read more

First of All - before I get going on the witty journal stuff, many apologies on the delay in the entries, have had a few technical hitches but have finally sorted it all out. So for most of you the last time I saw you was probably at many of my leaving events (bleeding a good excuse for a shindig as usual). A fabulous end to an era, with parties of different moods to match all the lovely colourful characters who helped to bid me a bon voyage. So I guess my adventure really begins when I was officially off on the adventure on my own - and for me, cheesy as this may sound - was in the departure lounge in Heathrow airport. I've just had a little glance at my first entry from my ... read more

Hi there, I haven't fallen off the face of the planet.... Well who knew Australia would be so flipping cold?? We arrived here just over a week ago, first stop Perth & I was glad I acquired a blanket from the airline cause it's like being back home except without any of the clothes to keep you warm. So for the last week we've been cruising the west coast....ok we only went a down as far as Margaret River but the further south we went the colder it got so we hastily made our way back to Fremantle where we've been for a few days now. We hired a van to drive the west coast....didn't get off to a great start...only got 50 km out of Perth when the clutch went so sat on the highway ... read more
