After having a couple of days doing some shopping for camping equipment and food and drink for the camping trip, we packed the trailer - why are they never big enough? We had to put the tent, chairs and tables on the roof of the trailer. We left about 4am which you have to do when you are going on holiday or it doesn’t seem right. It wasn’t cold though. We had an uneventful journey and it was lovely to see some of the Country. We arrived at our campsite about midday and set up camp. It was a lovely spot - after we had negotiated with the camp manager that we didn’t need to pitch in the pokey little site that had been allocated us right next to the office and could park anywhere in ... read more

Back to Melbourne for a day and then off to the Arapiles Ranges camping with Bec’s brother, Owen. It was great to get away from cities again and out in the wide open spaces. An outdoors nut, Owen wanted to show us how to rock climb and abseil. Two days we learned the ropes (no pun intended) and challenged ourselves to break through the fear. We were due to stay 4 nights, but the forecast of rain is not a good thing for rock climbers. So back to Melbourne we went.... read more

Hi everyone We had 2 nights at Warrnambool. It was cold and wet most of the time. On the day we arrived there we set off around the Great Ocean Road stopping at all the lookouts until we got to the 12 Apostles. It was cold and very windy, up to 40 knots, but very spectacular scenery. We did the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village and went to the lazer show at night which is an award winning show about a shipwreck. Because of the weather, we decided to go north!! Find some sun again. So yesterday we came up to Halls Gap in the Grampians - us and unbeknown to us, the 3000 + people in a cycle race around Victoria!! Our camping ground is relatively quiet, only a few cycling oldies and parents following the ... read more

Hey Friends, I just got back from Araps last night. I sure know what 'travel weary' means now. Or maybe I don't, I haven't been gone that long and haven't travelled that far from Natimak to get back to Melbourne. I was pretty glad to check into this hotel off a park in Melbourne though, have a real shower and sleep in a real bed. Three weeks in a tent with varying amounts of sleeping mattress (I went through 3 sleeping mats, sortof) and infrequent showers combined with physical activity in the sun everday and then add on top of that the stress and relief of rock climbing. I'm proud to say I never got the shakes while climbing while I was there though. Just intense sweating of the hands and then lots of chalk. Anyways, ... read more

I've been at Mt. Arapiles for almost 2 weeks. It's pretty great. I was so happy to finally set up my tent and put all my kit inside and finally relax on that first night. It felt like after travelling in limbo for a week I was finally home. Plus, as other climbers know well, I got to experience the great feeling of waking up after a long night driving and being in a completly new landscape with beautiful rock right there. Best morning wake-ups so far Red Rocks 2007 Mt. Arapiles 2008 Joshua Tree 2008 Smith Rocks 2008 The climbing here is great. I'm constantly surprised at how steep the climbs are for the relatively easy grade. For example, a 5.8 in Squamish is so shallow you barely need hand holds and can almost just ... read more

We crossed the SA/Vic border without great fanfare and headed into The Grampians via Horsham and Wartook Valley. We made camp at Smith Mill camp ground. It was a great site with a fire place (with a swivel hotplate) and picnic table and plenty of room for us to set up our full annex (awning with walls). We did this because it looked like rain was heading our way and the forecast was for wet and windy conditions during the weekend. It was great having a fire place again and being able to use it. Cape Arid in WA was the last time we had a camp fire. We had plenty of wood as the only other group of campers there when we arrived decided to leave due to the expected bad weather, leaving us all ... read more

Hey everyone!! Hope you are all doing well!! So last weekend we went up to a mountain range about 3 hours from Melbourne called the Grampians. We drove our sweet ass ride up there (our 1998 Hyundai Excel) to visit with one of Trents dads friends, named Mark. He lives on an acreage near a small town called Pomonal. We had a great ride up, seen some kangaroos, and lots of birds, and arrived at Marks friday evening. He lives with his girlfriend, Sue, and her daughter. Its a very laid back place, not much to do except sit on the deck and relax. It was great to get out of the city! On Saturday we went in to a town about 10 minutes away from Marks place to visit Sue at her workplace, she owns ... read more

A sad goodbye to the coast and off we headed to the hills. Our first stop at the base of the Grampians gave us a surprising and amusing discovery, in every town we have stopped at we visit the big blue I. Normally the staff, as eccentric as they may be, talk up their town and every little thing init that could comes under the remit of an attraction. However in this town the guide just gave us a strange look and told us to move on to the next town, so we got back in the van and drove on. What a marvellous ambassador for her town! The road to Halls Gap, the heart of the Grampians lead us through deep forests and up hills to beautiful look outs. We pulled off the road and ... read more
