Well I was able to drag myself off the beach for a few hours to give you an update. I don’t actually have a lot to update on as I have become a beach bum since arriving in Adelaide. Before leaving Melbourne I took a trip to Phillip Island where I sat and watched the Fairy Penguins come out of the ocean at night to sleep in burrows on land. Fairy Penguins are the smallest of the penguin species measuring up to only 33 cm tall. They are blue in colour not black and so very cute. They come out of the ocean at dusk in small groups and head back to the ocean at dawn spending the whole day diving for fish. They take it very slow and are very cautious; sometimes running back ... read more

After a day of rain yesterday, that was spend rather productively with sleeping in , reading, souvenir shopping, running errands and a visit to the Central Market here in Adelaide, i woke up to splendind sunshine today. After a nice jog along the river front and a healthy breakfast, I decided to spend the day in Glenelg and check out the beach volleyball of the Fire and Police Games. To get to the nice beach side supurb of Glenelg, you have to ride the old vintage tram for about 25 minutes ( very cool) , and it pretty much stops on the main shopping promenade in Glenelg. Although the sun was shining, once out by the ocean, i was hit with a stiff cool breeze, since the atmosphere had cooled quite a bit after the ... read more

I leave Adelaide tomorrow to go on a tour down the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne which I'm looking forward to. Adelaide has been good, I didn't really do much, just spent lots of time on the beach and wondering round the city. My youth hostel was a 30 second walk away from the beach and a 1/2 tram ride from the city. This morning I moved to a different youth hostel in the city because that is where the pick-up is from tomorrow. I wish I could have spent a bit longer here so I could visit Kangaroo Island, oh well maybe next time! Dad is flying out in less than a week which I'm looking forward to (especially as he's paying for everything!). I haven't had chance to up-load any photos yet, but will ... read more

I flew from Cairns down to Adelaide to visit my friend Phil Deacon. I hadnt seen him in almost a year as he is studying med school down in Oz at Flinders Uni. It was during my week stay with him that it hit me, that most people actually have daily lives with lots of responsibility. Deacon is definetly no exception. This man accomplishes more by 10am than most do in a full day. He was voted president of his med school program by his peers last year, which is a huge responsibility and also finds time to socialize more than most and maintains grades that are at the top of his class. Most of my evenings in Adelaide, we would stay up late watching TV and talking out on his back porch until about 1 ... read more

I'm in Adelaide. It's small with not a lot going on! The streets are kindof Britishy but just sparse. I can't believe I'm still in Australia! I basically saw all there is to see in the centre in just 3 hours- including art gallery, museum and botanical gardens! The hostel is nice though...sharing with a german and a canadian guy. The weather is lovely, adelaide is pleasant, i dont want to sound like I'm moaning...i'm just a bit surprised at the lack of atmosphere? The general opinion of people i've spoken to is the same! I've booked myself in for a day tour to KANGAROO ISLAND tomorrow- we get picked up at 6.20am and return at 11pm! eek! a long day! I hope its worth it! Im promised more kangaroos, koalas and sealions in their natural ... read more

Much like every time we ever take a taxi in Melbourne the taxi driver wasn’t quite sure where we wanted to go which was quite confusing seen as we wanted to go to the City Bus Depot. He dropped us off in the street, luckily enough he was just about right and we made it. The bus was pretty deserted so we got two seats each…nice! Ruth was genius ... read more

That's better, yesterday moved out of My Place, was making pals there but was not that good, went on the Groovy Grape tour of the Barrossa Valley, a funfilled day of dirty jokes and drank the equivalent of almost 3 bottles of wine, inc Jacob's Creek. Learnt a lot about the art of wine tasting though by the last place we did it was just, yeah 1994 vintage, fill her up! gulp. Realised on the way back that the million plus in Adelaide all live in sprawling suburbs and in one suburb Edinburgh, the residents are famous for their mullets which they pronounce 'moo lay' Interesting little fact that. Anyways moved over to beach suburb of Glenelg last night, much better, hostel quiet but some top people there inc new mad dutch pal (very dutch if ... read more
