New Word: Pippie, small clams that are picked from the shoreline. The past couple of days have been overcast and rainy. When looking up to the skies it appears like a bag of muddy cottonballs, but as this jumble of dirty cotton balls float by they slightly break apart to show glimps of the blue sky above. Regardless of the "pour" weather we took an hour drive north to Port Douglas; a very neatly presented township. The highway, more like a boulevard, coming into Port Douglas is lined with palm trees; all very tropical, green, and manicured. We parked on the main street and window shopped the 5 or 6 blocks to the Sunday Public Market. This market is very popular with the locals and tourists; lots of fresh fruits and veggies to be had. ... read more

Hollow and helplessness after yet another day of emotional violence. Simultaneous steel traps of stubbornness withhold love and acceptance from each other. When will enough be enough?? Lately I feel my best when I am alone. So why can I not acknowledge to myself that I need space and time to myself and that perhaps it is best for both us for me to take that time? I have neglected my SELF. This feels good, my creative, radiant essence. Why do I not seem able to maintain both blissful states of being? In love with my life, partner AND self?! Attachment to pleasing… And if I am purely focused on the pleasing of another, how can I be for myself also? So, why be purely focused on the pleasing of another then? Ah-haaa…..... read more

Dreamed I had green tics in my skin last night, possibly due to my pre-sleep waking thoughts of parasites crawling around my body yechh! My dream job - ice cream girl Surprisingly, I’m really enjoying it! A little disappointed with the lack of supervisory inspiration and motivation though, this could be such a fun and ‘wicked’ environment to work in but the girls I’ve shared time with so far seem mostly vacant… or somewhere else? They don’t appear to be enjoying their work and participate in small talk of their drinking, smoking, unhealthy eating habits. Something in me - ego?- loves opportunity such as this (having serving to myself) to get it all together to show em (my employers and the customers) what I can do. I am worthy damn it - you’ll see! You’ll love ... read more

9.25am Tsunami alert from Cairns to Cooktown.. that includes Port Douglas. An earthquake measuring 8.1 on the rector scale sends shock waves al the way from the Solomon Islands to Far north Queensland. I didn’t buy into the impending fear at all…at first. In true spirit of the commercial media, the sensationalism grew by the minute… and still I was cruising around not even believing we’d see a ripple out this way. But, five minutes before the event was supposed to effect our shores in the Port, I thought, hmm… perhaps it’d be better to be safe than sorry? (even with 30 minutes notice, I leave emergency evacuation till the last minute!) So, with all our belongings and enough food to last a few days should I get stranded somewhere out where, I skipped town to ... read more

Who would have thought?! It’s incredible! All this fruit feasting - I am so addicted to rollinia - and I am definitely losing inches. I suspect it’s the coconut flesh I’ve been enjoying… as I remember the effect of the cold pressed of course oil on Luke during one of his own fetish eras. After a couple weeks of coconut oil with everything, he’d lost a couple kilos at least - and he doesn’t have much to lose! I feel the same deal, with fresh milky flesh for breakfast each morn. I’m sure my new regime of push-ups (girlie-style) and lunges and squats are helping too Who would have thought? Coconut meat = a slimmer, less cellulite you! Luke’s gone to Townsville for the weekend. Business with the inflexible and maddening government system. So, we have ... read more

What rights? Stuck. Between potential hard slog for $17per/hr & nowhere. Lost, sitting in the car… Reminding me of when I ran away from home as a teen when in upset… Couldn’t go home - suck in upset. Couldn’t go elsewhere - what elsewhere? Sitting in the van, outside a school… begging for fresh air and a firm bed for a good night’s rest. But no choice but stuffy metal cage and Clark’s well used rubber foam job. We are so over it. Ample opportunity but how much do we wish to settle for? Are we worth more than $17 per hour? Or should we accept this as it? Do we have the right to want & choose a job which we are passionate about? Or when faced with concerns of severance from Centrelink does one ... read more

We drove an hour north and pulled into our lodgings at the Nautilus Holiday Apartments. Hot an muggy, and we need a pint. We made the short walk to Macrossan Street, the main drag of Port Douglas. Port Douglas is a charming spot, with boutique shops and restaurants all along Macrossan. Apparently Bill Clinton and the like are partial to the place. We stopped into the Iron Bar for dinner and pints, and took our chances on the not to be missed Cane Toad Races. I also got to watch some of the footy. Next day Sandra and Sheila got up early to watch the ... read more

We were up nice an early to hop on our little bus to Port Douglas. We had a really scenic drive up the coast on the short trip to Port Douglas with commentary the whole way (Something that happens on pretty much every bus in OZ) from our driver. We checked into our hostel which had a beautiful pool (7 and a half months and the first hostel we had seen with a pool). After a bite to eat we explored the picturesque town which while small has a really nice atmosphere about it. After that we cooked ourselves up some pasta and booked ourselves a day of diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We headed for the hostel bar to cool down as the temperatures in Port Douglas are as high as anywhere in Asia. ... read more

The drive from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas was another long one. These long drives are very boring as the scenery is just tree after tree, interdespersed occasionally by sugar cane plots. The only interesting thing about this drive though was that we moved into very tropical areas as we headed north with landscape changing accordingly. We started seeing palm trees, crocodile warnings and even large squashed snakes by the road side. When we arrived in Port Douglas this was accentuated as we stepped out of the air conditioned car and were instantly too hot and sweaty and had attracted tonnes of local mossies! We stayed in a hostel called Parrotfish Lodge which had great facilities including a gorgeous pool, fast internet and a bar with mega cheap food and drinks. This meant we could just ... read more

Port Douglas is lovely, there is a long golden beach and a very small relaxed town. Unfortunately we are over here in their Wet Season. The last few days prior to our arrival there was torrential rain, flooding and a cyclone threatening the area. The temperatures are really high, but it is muggy, overcast and raining off and on all the time. We have been unable to go on the beach, normally there is a net sectioned off part which is used and has coastguards but due to the recent bad weather there is a lot of debry being swept on to the beach and to ensure that the nets are not damaged they have been taken down. So although it is now calm, warm and the sea has temperatures of 29 degrees, we have been ... read more
