ALLO!

All good things must come to an end and I guess the end of our fantastic six months is drawing nearer. The last couple of weeks in tropical north Queensland have been brilliant. It's been a real mix of water and boats, tropical rainforests, cassowaries and a four wheel drive to round it all off. All things tropical! Water! We enjoyed a trip on a purple catamaran 'Camira'. It was a great day's sail. After meeting our craft and crew we set sail (well not sail - there was absolutely no wind at all, the sea was like a mill pond, so we had to motor!) out amongst some of the 74 Whitsunday islands. Mike took up the challenge of a half hours snorkle, which he thoroughly enjoyed, as did I, as I spent the ... read more

July 14. (cont.) List on railing: Great knot, Box-tailed godwit, Red-necked stint, Royal Spoonbill, Lesser Sand plover, Australian Pelican, Great Egret, Whimbrel, Eastern Curlew, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper. Breathless 'Brown Eyed Girl'. Lorikeet chirps. Promenade all. Country song, booming bass. Met '7' weekend reporter/cameraman. He keen to do story. Told several sticker takers to call Monday morning and ask for coverage. So what does it come down to? Truth and beauty. Courage. Probably just bloody minded persistance. I had all the answers. Purpose/meaning/secret of life. My mom says red wine and laughter. Watched Eagles drubbing and Geelong beat Collingwood. Drove to Port Douglas. Combined Clubs riverside dining. All good. July 15. Low key spruik. Blokes at pub 9:30am got stickers. Said it was happy hour til 12. Came past an hour later. They shouted wanting flag. Went to ... read more

Hello folks (Rach typing today), we are so pleased that you have been looking at the blog and sharing our fun - keep the comments coming please! Yesterday was a good, relaxing day. We started at the markets and finished the day with a sunset cruise for some croc spotting (see first photo - magnifying glass may be required) Today was eventful! Liz became a scuba pro - mastering 2 full dives with ease. She surprised me by agreeing to a dive and ended up doing TWO!! She was very apprehensive this morning and was even worried about the snorkelling. I was organising my stuff on board the boat while Liz chatted to the dive instructor (nice legs + six pack) After two minutes she returned and announced that she was going to dive. I ... read more

Greetings from a cold and wet Sydney. It is certainly not hot here all the time. I am hating the fact I dont have a car, and have seemed to feel constantly damp. In an attempt to do the Aussie traveller thing and chase the sunshine I have just got back form a 2 week holiday. To say it had ups and downs would be a slight understatement. I wont bore you all with the details though. Wil came over to visit me and we set off on a mega tour that I had planned. After firstly introducing him to a few of my friends and getting quite drunk doing the Sunday drinking thing at the Sheaf. We jetted off to Alice Springs on the monday. I misread the ticket and arrived at the airport ... read more

Another blog already!! I just couldn't wait to share my photographs from my scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and I am taking shelter from a warm downpour - well I am near the rainforest! It is very warm and humid and the skies have decided to give us all a light warm shower to cool down! We are staying at Dougie's Backpackers hostel and campsite and it is lovely. All the places I have stayed in so far have been soo different to eachother. We are in a small wooden cabin surrounded in palm trees, greenery and the sound of crickets. The room is spotless and secure! There is a huge kitchen within the bar area so it seems very sociable. Erin and I have just stocked up on groceries for some healthy ... read more

When in Queensland, Snorkel and Fish While I wasn’t incredibly interested in more snorkeling, Kel had the right idea that we would likely never get a chance to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef again. It was a chance we couldn’t pass up so we booked half day snorkeling trip for Wednesday. We took a lazy morning off and spent our time lounging. I sat on our porch and read a Nelson DeMille book while Kel spent some time on the internet calling her Mom. Kel also cooked up some breakfast - we’re going to miss the ability to have “home” cooked meals (aka rental apartment cooked meals) when we return to hotel life in Europe! At about 11:30am we jumped in the car with our towels, sunscreen and cameras and headed to the local marina ... read more

Geo: -17.9451, 145.67Port Douglas, Queensland, AUSTRALIA 7th - 15th June 2007 Arrived in Sydney at lunch time and had a 5 hour layover which was fine as we had to collect the bags to put them through security for the domestic flight to Cairns, so there was time to look in book shops and eat and drink latte's and read (trachy magazines in my case). Qantas flight (service better in International) to Cairns after no sleep for 30 hours would've been better without a load of American spring breakers majoring in loudness but the movie was 'Picture Perfect' ??? which was grand (E Norton, N Watts). Finally got to Cairns at 11pm and my sister had arranged a limo to come get us for the hour long drive to Port Douglas which seemed to take forever. ... read more

NEW: FOTO-UPDATE!! Hey allemaal!
