"Make sure you lock the toilet door, its at the back next to the pool and the cocktail bar. If you don't and I break hard, you dont want to go flying down the isle with your pants down". Great. A bus driver witha sense of humour. At least the air conditioned Greyhound down to mission beack was comfortable and fast, and the in journey video kept me amused. I arrived at mission beach, and realised it was infact nothing more than a beack. Half a dozen shops, cafes and restaurants are scattered on the one road that runs behind this beack, but thats about it. The beach is fringed by a thick band of mangrove which means that even the minimum impact made by the one street has no effect on the beach - it ... read more

Soede Caroline! MEN........................ skattepige. I've been there, seen this & done that. Og det ... read more

Rain all day. Absolutely nothing to do. Got the bus to the 'shops' didn't spend long there, walked back and saw our first kangeroo, dead, on the side of the road, nice. We were soon by the pool when the sun came out, but sure enough 2 minutes later we were soon back in our room out of the rain... read more

Our first Oz Experience trip. Once everyone had finished faffing around we met our bus driver - Shaun, boring, annoying, babbling Shaun. Not a great impression of our first bus driver! Our first stop was at a place called Atheton table lands to see a curtain fig tree. Which is pretty special but still quite boring. We found out once we were in there that we weren't supposed to be, as there were no foundations on the bridge we were standing on! Before lunch we stopped at Lake Eacham, took a 90 min walk around it but only saw trees, so just good exercise. At the same lake was a turtle viewing area. After lunch we went to a beautiful waterfall called Millaa Millaa Fall. We arrived at Scotty's and shared a dorm with Austine, Rebecca ... read more

We stayed at Mission Beach for 3 nights. There's not much there except for a big beach but we mainly stopped in order to go white water rafting in nearby Tully. The rafting was good fun, though would probably be better in the wet season. Many of the rapids were more like puzzles ( finding gaps big enough to pass through ) than they were white knuckle rides. Still, we enjoyed it and it was a good way to stay cool and Sara only fell out of the boat a couple of times.... read more

Well, I did it. This morning at 11.30am I was collected from my hostel taken to an air strip, given 5 minutes training, flown to 14 000ft and then thrown out of an aeroplane! I have to say that for some reason I wasn't scared at all and loved every minute of it! It was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to go again. My instructor - Bruce (No I am not making it up he really was called Bruce) was really fun and has done an excellent DVD so you can all see for yourselves when I get back exactly what I went through. There was a 60 second freefall and then it took about 5 or 6 minutes to land on the beach. Amazing, breataking scenery over the reef and great views ... read more

hmmmm, how cocky was i feeling when i got up decided that it would be a good idea to go sky diving?! after being told all night by mark and kev (two dead nice blokies from ireland who we went out with) that it was great fun i decided that i really would have to see for myself. so when the lady at the tour desk said " we can fit you in at about 1.00pm" i nearly had a fit. that's totally no time to back out!!! still, i guess that's a good thing, otherwise i never would have done it!!!!!! so i opted for the 14,000 feet sky dive. i reasoned that if i was going to jump out of a plane there really wasn't going to be much difference between doing it at ... read more

had to get up stupidly early as we were being picked up at 7.35am to go rafting. still, it was totally worth it, rafting was ace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never thought that i would enjoy it as much as i did, but we all had such an amazingly fun day! we went with a company called raging thunder who were brilliant. our guides (or whatever you call them!) were great, two blokes, vince (who looked an awful lot like a cross between vin diesel/sly/arnie) and baz (who was just pretty :)) who did everything they could to make sure we had oodles of super fun :) ah, slight twist, me, laura and sarah booked on to the normal rafting but somehow ended up doing the extreme rafting day!! eep! they told us after (thank god - think i ... read more

Got the local bus to Mission Beach village which was tiny, so we had a quick browse around there and then went and sat on the beach again. Then we had a massive long walk back to the resort in the heat of the day along the beach, which was probably not very clever, and got the bus at about 3pm to Cairns - our final destination :-( !!!!!!! It was only 2 hours on the bus and we're staying at the Bohemia hostel which was recommended to us and is gorgeous. Had a cheeky cocktail at the bar (mine was lush, Lucy's looked like Kermit the Frog had been liquidized) before heading into town and having a Chinese meal. Had to have a relatively early night as we've got a 6.20am pickup for rafting tomorrow! ... read more

Slept in really late and then went to the supermarket and got stuff for a picnic on the beach which was lovely, and much better than the fake brie that we had the other day on Magnetic Island! The beach was also very nice (but obviously the food is more important and needs to be mentioned first). 14 km of (almost) deserted beach and we're right in the middle of it, so we spent a few blissful hours sunbathing, reading and picking shells on a long stroll as the sun went down. I saw more of those amazing star-like sand patterns like I saw on the beach in Broome and discovered that they're made by crabs - i.e. i had to wait for ages outside the hole and see what crawled out!! We had the "buffet" ... read more
