We headed down to Kroombit on the Oz bus today. We stopped to play lawn bowls on the way! It was a really long drive and when we got there it was raining hard. We were taught how to crack a whip and had a go on a mechanical bull, I only lasted three bucks. We were given some goat meat to eat while we were waiting for dinner, it's really tasty and apparently it's the most widely consumed meat. We had a nice roast dinner at the cattle station and played some party games. ... read more

Kroombit was a class little stop over curtsey of the Oz experience. It’s basically a working cattle farm which opens its doors to tourists who fancy themselves as a bit of a Jackaroo (the name of a young cattle hand in Oz). We pulled in to the smell of sizzling steaks which is always a good start in my book. Well fed and watered we were showed to our respective horses which we would be riding on for the coming goat muster. It was cool experience to trot off from the cattle station into the surrounding hills to herd up goats. There stubborn little buggers, stopping to eat anything in there path you have to be quite dexterous with the old reigns to make sure you get them all. As expected I got the arsey ... read more

We arrived in Kroombit at 3pm on Tuesday 12 June and immediately sat down to a steak lunch. We then walked around for half an hour and saw horses, donkeys and chickens. At 4pm, we went clay pigeon shooting and I only missed once out of five shots. We then formed groups of 3 and participated in the goat rodeo. The group stood in the middle of the pen and a goat was brought in. One person then had to chase and catch the goat and bring it to the centre of the pen. A second person had to pin the goat down by it's legs while the third person had to pretend to brand the goat - the fastest time being the winner. After quick showers, we sat down for a dinner of soup, potatoes, ... read more

I caught the Oz bus from airlie beach and was pleased to find that we had another cool bus driver called Stringer. We played dead bug bingo on they way to Kroombit, which is done by drawing up a grid on the windscreen of the bus, everybody putting in one dollar and picking a square in which their initals are written and whoever has the most splattered bugs in their square by the end of the journey wins all the cash. Needless to say by the end of the jorney i had never seen a cleaner windscreen in the section where my was, despite being surrounded by squished insects. We passed through Rockhampton on the way, which is a very strange place. Its main export is beef and so it's very into its cows, which is ... read more

Tuesday We had a long drive to Krombit cattle station but after an hour we stopped to play bowls! Karen and I won against team purple and I learnt a new card game from some old ladies. For the drive Karen, heather and I were cramped on the back seat. The seats in front were higher so we couldn't see the 2 films but the driver did give us some beads so I made a bead lizard for my key ring. We arrived at 7pm and had dinner then learnt how to crack a whip which I managed. It was quite cool and harder than it looks. The mechanical bull was next- that was really hard and it hurt your hand. Karen did the best out of us 3. After that the remaining 8 of us ... read more

So the drive to Kroombit prooved strenuous although we met a cool guy from Liverpool called Dave - talked bout footy, uni life, his friends...really down to earth guy considering the experiences he's had and was probably one of the most genuinely nice people we've met so far! Hope we meet him down in Sydney! At Kroombit we got straight into some food, attacking my vege soup and mush! Good stuff! The atmosphere there was really nice! We learnt how to whip-crack, which tok some time but i can now do it really well but only with my left hand?! weird?! then we had a go on the mechanical bull..i volunteered to go first as no-one else would and we could have just sat around for hours..stayed on for 11 bucks and ended up coming 3rd ... read more

Sophie and I were up at 6am to have breakfast before we went for a horse ride. This was one of the best things I have done so far! It took a long time to get going, and I think my horse got very bored. I had to have the horse that couldn't wake up! As a first time horse rider I didn't know what it was doing so got a little bit worried! Once we got going we got up to the goat ranch. The goats were all over the fields and our task was to muster them and put them back in the pen. Two really cute puppies joined us. Andrew the owners son-in-law was training them to round up the goats too. We had to keep behind the goats and make wierd noises. ... read more

Morning Scooteroo! Have license? Grab a helmet! See Agnes Water. I had another early morning pick-up in Hervey Bay. I was the first one to be picked up and therefore got to pick the best seat in the house with the most legroom! Whoohoo! Pickups lasted at least 30 to 45 minutes because there was so much stuff to pack in and repack twice because our driver Stretch kept forgetting to tell everyone to wear proper shoes because of our morning scooter ride in Agnes Water and Town of 1770. Eventually we were off and drove for a few hours with a few stops before coming to the town of Agnes Water. They predict this will be the next Byron Bay. I was a bit nervous hopping onto a scooter on my own. 1) Fear I'd ... read more

Ann & Rob are great Really hospitable hosts Hard to say goodbye. Pick-up at the YHA by the Oz bus was set for 7:20. Lucky for me Ann and Rob drive right by the YHA in the morning and were able to take me there without a problem. The problem was I slept in! Dang dark room! Luckily I was prepared (must be the Girl Guide in me) and everything was just about ready and packed to go and I was ready in less than 10 minutes time and even had time to spare - 2 minutes! The morning drive into town was nice driving along the river. Rob said they usually leave about 10 minutes later and traffic is much heavier. Amazing what 10 minutes difference can make. Before I knew it, we were in ... read more
